Have you seen this
Have you seen the new propsals for Road tax VED coming into force Jan 2009 Showroom Tax of £950.00 and Up to £450.00 Road Tax so when a vehicle New that's what you are going to pay £1400 road tax and then when you buy Secondhand this is a retrospective charge to all vehicles registered on or after 2001
Vehicles registered prior to 2001 will remain on the old VED tax rate

Cant they just leave us alone.:Sad::swear:

Hi,

Do these rates apply to motorhomes - seems a BIG :shout: change from the earlier advice I received from the DVLA on the VED due on my motorhome (£180 if less then 3500Kg)?

Do you have a link to this info on the net?

Cheers

Mike

Hello,

Is this for all vehicles?

I've a small runabout and if these rates come in I'll have to think about getting a bike next. Not taxed (yet).

Where did you find the info?

Look <here>

Motorhomes over 3½ tons (RV) come as group TC 10 = £165 per year.

Motorhomes under 3½ tons and under 1550cc are TC 11 = £120 whilst motorhomes under 3½ tons but over 1550cc are TC 11 = £185.

SO it is cheaper to tax my 5.7 litre - 10 ton RV than it is to tax a 1552cc European motorhome!
Make sense of that then!

Tells you all about it - and that everybody who drives a vehicle over 3½ tons will need a Class C Licence and that professional HGV drivers will need an extra 'Certificate of Competence' to drive their HGVs.

Tax LED

Sorry was I being alarmist but we were looking at came up with this

Road tax: The future - What Car?
This is the new band of tax but we found the other article talking about a Showroom Tax (like a Purchase tax ) that is coming in Jan 2009 I know it is a one of Payment at purchase but every time you buy a Secondhand vehicle you will pay this Tax.
The backbenchers are supposed to be in revolt against it

There is another write up here as well

I've read the article and quote from it:

Introducing a new first-year rate of £950 for new, high CO2-emitting cars.

It doesn't mention secondhand cars anywhere that I can find

Sorry Mavis - I was aiming my reply at Sandy Ketton and Pronto.

This new tax applies ONLY to cars - not to motorhomes.

Thanks for putting me right only they talked about Vehicles so I thought it was all new vehicles.
To be honest there is so much going on with rules for this and tax's for that I cant keep track of it all
They seem to think we have a bottomless pocket
