We’d had our renewal notice from Comfort and done the usual phoning round as we’d bought a brand new van 5 months ago. It had only gone up £20 anyway. We were dithering about breakdown but have Fiat Assist so thought we’d rely on that. I thought I’d increase the mileage from 6000 to 8000 as we’re doing a big tour to Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia with GB motorhome tours as well as hopefully Beni, France and the UK. The lovely Rachel asked lots of questions just to check details and the devils have put it up another 1p ....

I was amazed, so glad I did it though.

That’s reassuring , I’m shortly going to be fitting air assist and was wondering how much it would affect my premium when I tell them . I’m not too surprised at your experience though , when we got our new van the premium stayed the same as before and hasn’t gone up much since

If you're with Comfort then they won't increase your premium if you add air assist. They'll place a note on your records if you tell them but that's about it.

I don't understand why you have to tell them anything, if they didn't ask in the first place how do they know you hadn't already got it.

It's a modification to the standard vehicle specification no matter who installed it or when so you do have to tell them so they can assess any additional risk.

We have to declare the wheelchair modifications, roof rack, hand controls etc to our car. The insurance actually decreases as it is less of a theft risk ( items on the roof rack are excluded).

Under the Disabilities Discrimination Act insurance companies are prevented by law from loading the standard premium when DVLA approved adaptations are fitted.
I only have use of my left arm and hand and have adaptations on my vehicles and motorbikes.

And on the car and m/h. (This is a library photo - not my vehicle).

Got to cover all bases so they don’t have the chance to refuse a claim because you didn’t tell them.
Not suggesting that Comfort would be like that but it’s too big a risk not to tell them .

If you are unfortunately involved in an accident, when your vehicle is inspected by an Insurance Assessor, they will have any extras logged and if this information does not tally with what you have told them your potential claim settlement will reduce

No accident no problem but there are many lunatic drivers on the roads ;)

Bit of a bye the bye, but a few years ago (about 20yrs) me and the lads were at Applecross touring on the bikes. Outside having a puff when another squad of bikes pulled up. 1st biker in had a hook for a hand on his left arm.
We got cracking away and he was showing us how had made the adaption himself. Cant remember the set up he had now but remember thinking it was pretty ingenious.
When there is a will!

We're with Comfort too, when we had semi-air fitted on the rear they increased the value of the MH by £2,000 (new for old policy) but there was no extra charge made, not even an admin fee, Safeguard on the other hand charge for everything!
