Right or wrong ?

We are surprised at the amount of people who travel to a site and then rarely leave the inside of their van . At Henley last month a couple in a Burstner didn’t ( as far as we could ascertain and they were deffo in there ) leave the inside of there motorhome for the duration of our stay .
I think last month was the AGM of Henley Agoraphobics

About 10yrs ago, I was on a Q&A panel and one of top C&MC hierarchy was there and the question of nose or reverse in parking came up.

He said, that "anyone could park in either direction, within the boundaries of the pitch"
I cheekily asked , if I could have that in writing, and I received it a few days later.
I always carry it in the van 👍
Dont keep it to yourself Post it on here for us all to have a copy

Can you put a copy on here please. I'm sure it would be helpful to a number of funsters
I STILL haven't managed to copy this letter, ( or anything important to me 😡) despite trying a number of time, however......

Although this request now seems superfluous as someone informed us this information is now on every booking in chit one receives as one enters a site, ( see #38) I did finally find the letter, slightly worse for wear, in the 'safe place' 🙄 I put it many years ago and photographed it so it's on my mobile.

(I've never had to use it since receiving it 10yrs ago as I have only visited any of their own expensive sites about 6 times since then)

To summarise from the letter:

It was sent in 2014 from

Neil Windeatt,
C&MHC Head of Site Operations,

and reads,
' I can confirm that across the Network, all Site Staff have been advised that all outfits have to pitch corner to the peg, an outfit can pitch nose or reverse in, however, the spacing rule must be maintained.

Visitors are therefore able to have their awnings facing each, or in your members case, enable them to shelter the door from the wind.

The bold printing is mine and there is more so, if you, or want others, to read the full letter , you will have to show me how to publish it at the Bash or another rally we are both attending as my 'go to' man at Tesco Mobile can't manage it either? 🙄

PS. I was at the Q&A representing a different club in 2014.

Opportunities to meet and chat should be encouraged.
How many times neighbour's have made no effort to pass the time of day only to desend on you as you are preparing to leave usually stating the obvious " you off then are you? Where you heading now?

I think I’ve posted before:

A few years back in Norway, a Swiss man asked us to change orientation so that the two doors didn’t face each other (we were both off side hab door).

I declined, firstly because it would lose us the view of the lovely marina, and secondly because we had been first on the site and present well before he arrived.

(I think he was a tad grumpy and had may be run out of funds in Norway as the family had to feed on pasta and tinned tomatoes only)

Re red kite - I’ve not previously had a problem in 3 visits, they just put you on an end pitch. Lovely site.

I think it's Uphill Marina near Weston. Red Kite near Llanidloes in Wales has the same rule.
I think this is an old wives tale.

I'm sure in the dim and distant past there were sites that forbade hab doors on the right,
but I've never actually found it to be true today.

If you read the blurb for both sites here and here both say that UK units drive in one way and continental units drive in the other way around.

Quite rightly they want all the hab doors facing the same direction, so that you are not sharing the space in-between with your neighbour.

We are RHD and RH Hab door, so in the UK I always point this out and ask if they want us in a certain direction.
If it spoils the symmetry of the line of vehicles, then that is preferable to touching next door's canopy.

You are correct, neither of those sites ban 'vans with right hand hab doors, but both do, as you say, insist that you park in such a way as to avoid facing doors.

Having said all that, Red Kite is a cracking site, and as said above, they do their best to accomodate you.

In my view, Uphill is overrated and recent photographs I have seen seem to indicate that they may be easing their pitching restrictions.

I don’t understand why anyone thinks the side the habitation door opens matters. I mostly sit by the window on the opposite side of the van so there really isn’t any privacy advantage to either side. It seems one or two sites are still living in some past age where everyone was lined up in regimented rows facing the same way, well they better get used to the modern world because continental vans are here to stay.

Well my two bobs worth is this. On a site where I can open the awning and have a table and chairs outside, I prefer to look at the side of my neighbours van rather than them with their table and chairs outside. Maybe I'm antisocial, but you never know who they are in the beginning, so I'm cautious. On sites that do no allow 'camping' it's not important, either way is fine.

Rules about where you erect an awning are fine but rules about which side you should have the hab door are not the same thing.

If I am sitting outside I sit where the sun is, or maybe the shade, irrespective of doors etc.
