Reversing sensors, bike security.

Hi Folks I have just fitted some reversing sensors and wondered if they could double up as security for the bike rack?
It would involve an extra 12 volt live lead which could be controlled by a 3 way switch, so normal use would be wire to brake light circuit, for security mode the switch would be operated so the system was live from the 12 volt supply and the sensor operative. If left on by accident it would still operate as a reversing sensors. If persons are in the area of the sensors the alarm would sound, not perfect but may be worthy of discussion.

I know little about modern electrics, but wouldn't that cause problems with the CamBus System?

If you have an alarm fitted you might be able to use one of its inputs to provide a bike alarm. I have connected one of the door sensor inputs on my alarm to a socket on the rear bumper. This takes a cable which loops around my bikes. When armed, any cutting of this cable or unplugging it from the socket breaks the circuit and triggers the alarm.

If they are aftermarket sensors they may not be integrated with the CANBUS system. However, they would have to be left switched on and normally these systems provide a beeping which is only heard inside the cab, so I'm not sure how much of a deterrent this would be.

Just dont park the back end near a hedge, wall, car, building, post, n'er do well or the alarm will be permanently beeping
