Here I am back again. Just seen a Bürstner this time....... smaller and definitely less risky for us newbies. However there is no air conditioning in the cab..... as we live in France, we could not contemplate long distance travel without air con. Has anyone ever added air con? Any advice? The hab has an 'air freshening unit' of good quality....... but we want to be cool and comfortable while driving. Please share your thoughts and experiences. Any brands you can suggest?

Sun's shining all! Hope you are gearing up to go. We are, if only mentally right now. But definitely soon to be owners.

We don't have cab A/C either, but thankfully the habitation A/C, which mostly runs on mains power on hook up, also works via a built-in inverter when the engine is running. Probably a cheaper option than having A/C retrofitted to the cab. It will also run on the habitation battery, but it kills the battery pretty quickly, so in a practical sense it is either EHU or the engine running

Getting better
Retro fitting a/c can be done to virtually any vehicle, but at a cost. The big problem is fitting the evaporator inside the heater body and being sure the fittings are on the engine for the compressor.
My advice would be avoid the hassle and cost, move on to find one with what you need and if A/C is a must have then go seek one out with it installed, plan B would be to speak to an auto a/C specialist and get a quote

Perfectly possible - and using Fiat original parts - but likely to cost circa £1,700 - £2,000 I reckon.

There are quite a few companies in the UK that will do it I believe.

OK, this option is dead in the water. Thank you for all the honest input. So that's a no. Now back to the 7m queen of the road option. Thanks

I have just asked a company in london this question alpinair.co.uk, Guy called Sam quoted £1650 + vat

This kit is comprised of original and aftermarket parts.

WE can also supply and fit using original parts. It will cost £2875+VAT.

WE will need the vehicle for 3-4 working days.

A friend of mine once said: "anything is possible, if you can afford it!"

Retro fitting aircon is totally possible, BUT the parts are mahoosively expensive, then you need someone qualified to fit it, and they tend not to offer their services for free!

To be fair, putting in hab aircon in with an inverter may be cheaper.

We had a van with no aircon at all
Most of our useage was France
I then saw these spray cans that spray a fine mist of water into your face to cool you down.
"I m not paying for a can of water!" was my response
Until ............... I tried it. 0.99 euros in E leclerc. Best euro i spent last year.
Beats upgrading to aircon

erm new van has aircon cab
