Ministers sparked confusion over the summer holidays today as they gave conflicting views on how 'normal' life will be in six months' time.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock raised the hopes of millions of Britons as he said that he expected a 'Great British summer' powered by the success of the vaccine rollout.

But less than half an hour after his local BBC interview, Trade Secretary Liz Truss said it was 'dangerous' for ministers to go on television 'making promises about people's summer holidays'.

Ministers sparking confusion: who'd have thought it?

Why not, just booked a site in Spain for next January and February.

I don't think Macron will want us Brits even if we are all inoculated. We could still potentially pass it on to the huge numbers of French who haven't been jabbed.

Thought of Scotland found two nice sites not planning on nc 500 or travelling round much just a week at oban and a week at Mallaig relaxing. Will pay deposits and see how we go

The very moment Scotland is open I’m going, I’m going to my cottage and I’m going alone and I’m just going to watch the Loch and the river, walk and soak up the seclusion.

And if I’m lucky my mate Ted will come along after a while and I can show him the views, the waterfall and the cave in the garden and maybe we can just stay there until we sort out what to do next

Are you going on Galacia?
Not decided yet as the sailings are not out yet for the end of December, it may also depend if we renew the Brittany Ferries membership in May. May use Tesco vouchers and go through the tunnel.

I love scotland, its a great place to take a holiday with a van, it might be busy but its a big place 🤓

We wont advance book anywhere. When we decided we want to go where ever we will phone around the area to see what is available.

I don’t think so somehow. We have booked in the UK and I think the best we can hope for is a foreign break in the autumn.

I think august is risky; France is very unlikely to be open and if it is still under restrictions which will tamp down the fun to be had; Scotland may be a good option but 1) will be heaving due to school holidays (which you're caught up in) but 2) I think the vaccine will be our long-term way out but won't have done it's job by then and it will be fighting off new variants so we'll probably hit another lockdown in the summer to keep cases down.
Sadly 2021 won't be the year we'd hoped for; it'll be a good year because it'll be our 'recovery' year due to the vaccine but we won't be 'cured' as country until towards the end - the sheer numbers plus two jabs being needed tell us that.

Plan going to SW Scotland in first week of July 🤞🏼

If wee Krankie can hurry up I can get an EU passport (Mum was from Airdrie) (y)

Mrs Carpmart has become a way more valuable asset since Brexit, what with her being from ROI and holding an EU passport... I may travel to my hearts content.. (obviously need her in tow!) 😜

Very unlikely for August. As for Scotland if it is open it will be rammed full everywhere.

I fear some people may be thinking of making back up UK bookings just in case they can’t get abroad (not Funsters of course). This is a bit unfair on the holiday sites and others. The holiday sites will have lost a lot of income by this summer and then to find they have been turning away genuine bookings to be left with people not turning up will just make matters worse. This could end up with higher prices. If I were an operator I might protect my business by taking large non returnable deposits. All this is to the disadvantage of those who are booking with the full intention of turning up if the pandemic rules allow.

We already know that popular Caravan and Motorhome Club sites suffer from multiple bookings where people don’t intend to honour them all. It is not a big jump from there to start booking UK holidays just in case going to France and Spain is not allowed. Just another form of panic buying. I shall call them Bog Roll Holidays and the C&MC non deposit bookings are vulnerable to this.

My wife also has an Irish passport but I have not seen anything written about what my entitlement would be. Do you have any links with info if she decides to take me in tow.............can we both avoid the 90 days limit
