I have a

and I want to change it for Victron

is it a straight switch? Do I need to do anything to protect my electrics whilst switching? Bear in mind I am not good at DIY especially electrics

Go for Victron, it's what I did....I have two Controller's...one for roof mounted panel and one for suitcase...swap the cheapie you have for a Victron as simple as that.. control everything with your phone...

Ideally cover your panels or do it in the dark.

Disconnect the panel wiring, label and insulate.

Find the fuse in the line from battery to controller and remove.

Disconnect battery wires from old controller and re-connect to new controller. Re-fit fuse.

Re-connect solar cables. Set Victron to suit your batteries etc.

Put masking tape ident tags on all cables so when you remove the old solar controller it's not a guessing games and crossed fingers as to which cable (Solar or Battery + and -) goes to the correct terminals of you shiny new Victron Solar controller. job should be a good un(y) and not🤞

If there is an inline fuse between the panels and the solar controller, removing that first would save having to cover the panels before the changeover.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Thanks for the blow by blow process guys just what I needed.
I am sure someone has already asked this but currently I have 160w solar panel and may want to add a larger one later to either replace or add to existing one, will the 100/30 be sufficient ?

This thread may assist.

Yes you will be ok with 100/30, up to 440w solar at12v

If you have 160W panel, and unlikely to be adding much more, you could find the Victron 75/15 or perhaps 100/30 is a better fit for your use than the 100/30. I'd expect it to be a couple of pennies cheaper. Your 160W is les than 13.5A output at 12V so the 75/15 should cope well with lower power loss in the controller.

Forgot to mention I have this fitted, do I need to be careful on the switch
