Our two Lucas LSLC85-12 – 85 amps AGM/Gel leisure batteries, which had been fitted when we bought the van new in 2014, failed in Spain and we had to drive home to Devon last December with very little available power. There were a few cold mornings in our Adria 600SP PVC when the blown heating air stopped working and there were no lights. Possible replacements were researched on the Motorhome Fun forum, Lithium batteries were tempting but too expensive and AGM batteries, according to Funsters, seem to have a short life when being charged solely by solar panels, (we are rarely on hookup). An old Varta LFD90 battery from our previous motorhome, stored ever since in our garage and maintained by an occasional trickle charge, still had life in it and was installed as a temporary battery in our van.
My reading of these pages and the life in our old Varta convinced me that the best way forward was to buy two Varta LFD90 batteries. The only problem with this was the available space for batteries in the Adria was too short buy a few cm. A bit of work moving the Electrobloc and the mains electric box a little created enough space for the two batteries.
I had seen in the Motorhome Fun magazine. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/magazine/motorhomefun-magazine/
the advert for Battery Megastore www.batterymegastore.co.uk who were offering 20% off Lithium batteries. When I phoned them to ask if there was any discount for Motorhome Fun members on other battery types I was referred to Charlie who gave me a discount on the Varta batteries. They were delivered the following day and are now fitted.
My next project will be to fit a B2B system, there is a lot of information on these pages which I have been reading.
