Our movano engine has lost all its oil on the A1 covering the engine bay.

Engine us.

Its a 2.2 is it the same as the Renault engine and where is the best place for a replacement?

No history though a recon would be more reliable???

There's not much difference. Generally a "recon" is just code for a scrapyard engine, unless supplied by a very reputable supplier.

My 2013 Movano has a 2299cc engine. Make sure you get the right engine code. IIRC, this year Movano was available in 4 different power outputs. You need to match, or there could be all sorts of incompatibilities with ancilliaries and the ECU. (Alternatively, a knowlegable supplier might be able to up the power a notch or two whilst you're there).

I believe this generation (including 2012) all used 2.3L M9T inline 4 cylinder diesel Renault engines, but I might be wrong. The more powerful versions have a completely different turbocharger setup.

many many years! since I was a kid
by far the cheapest solution is an engine from the salvage yards and there will be plenty to choose from so be fussy about low mileage. I have also bought a write of from a salvage auction before and used it as a donor vehicle for needed parts. Then sold surplus good parts and the scrap metal to offset part of the cost

I'd start looking on eBay and breaker yard search engines! Your problems are often the subtle differences between model years and models (most seem to be for Lagunas or Espace etc. and you'd need to check compatibility). Seems they go for around £300 to £750.

Do they have E6. In your year ? Thinking about the future.
I wouldn't think there was much chance. The M9T is available as a Euro 6 (but presumably with much additional emissions control gear), but I've not heard of a G9T. It was largely out of production by 2009, although soldiered on to 2011 in the Trafic. Even if there was such a thing as a Euro 6 version, good luck getting it re-registered!

Not that this will help you find a replacement engine but this reminded me of someone I worked with that bought an engine from a scrap yard.
The owner of the yard said he had an engine in the yard would he like it delivered. This sounded a good idea and he payed for the engine. Later that day a truck arrived at his house with a wrecked van on the back. The young lad driving the truck said his boss told him to deliver the engine but didn’t mention taking it out of the van first.
The yard owner was not impressed when the young lad came back to the yard to take the engine out. I can only wonder what the engine was like when he eventually got it.

How did it loose the oil? My daughter hit some debris in her car and wrecked the engine, she claimed on her insurance.

I don't know

It had a slight oil leak since I brought it.

I topped it up about 1l per 250 miles.

But this time it droped it all 5l didn't really touch the dip stick...

So it needed looking at but now I think the bottom ends knocking. We have a zafira 2.2 which did that once!!

Euro 6 I'll be lucky more like one that holds its oil!

Sounds plausible. Oil dumpings are often turbo related.

Changing the engine to beat emission standards doesnt work the emission standard is fixed when the vehicle is built and can not be changed crazy but true

Also the ecu will be different between different generations of as simalar engines.

Looks like I'll be getting a s/h but warrantied engine from a specialist breaker for £750 + about the same to fit.

Only issue is my garage is busy till the end of the month.

The specialist could do it but it's 1 1/2hour drive there which I don't think it would make.

If we are in lockdown from tomorrow then might as well leave it until your local garage can fit it in because you ain’t going anywhere soon☹️☹️☹️

Hi

latest update.....

Had engine delivered when I got it to the garage they said they could not do the swap as the van is lwb and won't fit on the ramp.

Most local garages won't touch it.

So I've go to find a garage in West Yorkshire that will do the job.

Update

I've been ringing round garages in between home schooling!

looks like I've two choices a small local garage with a good reputation 2weeks time or a van centre in Leeds 10 miles away next week, issue is will it drive to Leeds.... I'll check this afternoon.

Only my view which is of no great importance, however I suggest a few second thoughts. Local garage can call you and keep you in the loop, not guaranteed but likely to be mindful of a local reputation and your future custom.

Is often better to keep things as much under your immediate control if at all possible.
Just a thought

Van dropped off with the garage. He has a transit Mk7 engine out so looks like it's in capable hands. Will ring tomorrow to tell me the state of play re turbo etc. Sounds like it needs one.

Should I get the water pump transferred across as mine had only done 53k. Any other parts.
