bessicarr 496
Exp
5 years
I have a bessicarr 496 2016 plate on fiat ducato base I bought 2 years ago. I can't find out when the timing belt was done last in paperwork says should be done every 5 years. is it advisable to get it done before I travel to France next month. been quoted £1000 including water pump

That sounds on the high side.
With cambelts if you don't know when if it has been changed.. it's very much a case of "Are you feeling lucky".. Personally I would have done it by now...too big as risk not too

The water pump won't need changing unless it's leaking

So on the 5 years, its due. If the previous owner didn't change it you are running on borrowed time. £1000 seems about the going rate, more importantly I think worth the peace of mind. Personally I just wouldn't chance not having it done.

I would get it done. Make sure you get a full kit fitted. Belt, rollers, tensioner etc. plus any other belts in the same area. If you ask for a cambelt change some garages will do just that & put the old auxiliary belts back on. Ask me how I know!

Honestly, running around Europe with an unknown like that will never let you really enjoy it. Get it done, but if the water pump isn’t leaking, leave well alone. Had my van 20 years and a new cambelt kit and aux belts every 5 years, but never once touched the water pump.

Good luck with your trip 👍🏻

Some of the belts over the years…
