Hi all. Has anyone ever successfully repaired a scrape to the black kinda 'trim' stuff found on the side of some PVCs? On the attached photo, I can get touch-up paint to match the scuffed blue paint (for here and elsewhere on the van) but I am not sure what to do with the black stuff. The blue paint underneath the scuffed black is fine, so I am thinking some kind of matt black touch-up paint? Thanks for any help. Ian.

Suppose the first question would be how "black" is it. Guess there will be variations on black as there is with white.

True. It is somewhere between gloss and matt, but more towards the latter. Think I'll have to experiment with some acrylics.

If you struggle to get a match what about thinking about a vinyl wrap sample (or similar) cut to whatever shape you fancy in a contrasting colour on both sides of the van? Might look better than a "look he's trying to match in a bit of damage" scenario.

Is it paint or black vinyl wrap

Thanks both for comments. Sorry, yes I should have said that it is a black vinyl wrap. The scrape is less than 3 inches from end to end, but I don't know how easy it would be to fit such a small piece of vinyl without obvious hard edges. I do have some black spray paint for a wood stove!

A local graphics company may be able to replace the whole of the damaged graphic for you at a reasonable cost.

It is not possible to see from your photo how large the whole graphic is.

We have found that our local graphics company are surprisingly cheap.

Thanks for the idea. The graphic is essentially a simple rectangle, but it is pretty large. I have now painted in the scuffed part with acrylic paint and will see how that lasts. If it doesn't hold, then I may try black metal paint. I am probably being over precious about it all! Had we been back on the road as planned I wopuyld have probably forgotten about it by now!

I have just filled a small hole in my plastic trim by mixing in some black paint into car body filler, you have to be careful when sanding it off though.

Thanks for the useful tip!

I used a local sign writing company to add extra wrap vinyls where they had been scratched.
motorhome repair quote was £1100 pounds.
sign writer £100.
still going strong 1.5 years later

Thanks for the idea of using a sign writer.
