Someone has asked me if I would rent out my Motorhome, not a chance. I promised to check if anybody on here did that? She wants to rent one and go to a Music Festival with her husband. She is fortysomething and seems sensible.

She still isn’t getting her hands on my Moho though

Mmmm a music festival and someone else in your Moho.

Whatever could go wrong ?

Ha ha not much eh?

Tell them a tent would be better .. Certainly less worry for you ..

Can’t believe you considered it ??‍♂️

most rental firms wont allow use at music festivals like glasonbury as the vans get filthy with mud

Oh that makes sense now that’s why the cheeky mare enquired about mine. Got her number now

Having spoken to a guy that used to rent vans, his worst customers were stag parties, le mans and festival goers. ALL lost their deposit and it took days to clean and repair the vans for re-issue. the attitude was that they had paid so it was their absolute right to trash the van. vomit faeces blood and mud were just a few of the stains inside the van

why anyone would ever consider lending or renting out their own personal vans is beyond me

I'm not sure if that is right. Glastonbury is one of the biggest markets for motorhome hire. Renters usually have to put down a deposit of £1,250+, which should cover the sort of problem you mention and of course they are fully insured too.

Big events are huge money spinners for the motorhome hire industry, with premium prices charged.

That’s how we got into Motor Homing by hiring a MH to go to the Glastonbury festival. We hired a MH for three GF before buying our own. Was about £1,000 + insurance for the week. The hire vans are usually very basic (no awnings or things that can be broken by lack of experience) they are like hire cars bought by the owner to make money from.

R-V`s especially, are in demand for "corporates", Silverstone, Glasto, and the blig "Horsey" events. etc; I was approached by a rental/sales company some years ago to lease mine. £1500pw was the going rate back in 2005/6. I was tempted but SWMBO veto`d it!. One serious note they insured against damage, and where prepared to re-carpet IF it was unable to be cleaned. Our First R-V had been used for Film Work. Even had the "makeup" lighting still in the bathroom!. Allegedly several "famous" "stars" had slept in my bed!.(y).

Swift are currently doing a hire system BTW. And there is company at Dunswell near HULL who hire.

I have recently stopped full-timing and would consider renting mine out via a company as 1. I could do with the money and 2. I have nowhere to store it nearby so I'm unlikely to use it much. The money would have to be good though. Anyone ever done this?

I was surprised by the amount of hire vans at Glastonbury, mattresses chucked in vans aren’t allowed at festivals, they are required to have permanent cooking and bed facilities. Made absolutely no difference at Kendall calling though, we had Luton vans pulling up that were clearly used for business and a mattress lobbed in, pretty poor enforcement of the rules to be honest

Without all the associated problems, the insurance is a big issue. The ones for hire in New Zealand are incredibly basic. No awnings, carpets, cheapo furniture and chairs etc.
Don’t do it.

Constantly asked by family members when can we borrow your moho,
Usual reply you cant and never will be able to. Too precious too us and took a lot if graft to save up for it
We get asked by family members too. I just say, If you pay the extra insurance about £1000 last time I asked. Never get asked again .

If you don’t want to upset her, blame your insurance policy saying you are not allowed to hire it out or lend to others.

If you’re not bothered about upsetting her just tell her NO!

I would lend ( not hire ) our van to any of our kids... but three reasons:
They are all insured for it
They all have the where with all to pay for damage
They all have their own motorhomes and if something awful happened I would have theirs

But our family is very close as many of you have seen first hand. In this respect I know how lucky we are.

As to hiring to a non family member ? No bloody chance !
