I’ve got a self converted T5 so used staying in vans, but now planning on getting all mod cons, as will be away a lot more for long periods (we had planned to leave on 28 March in the T5 and upgrade after the first trip) I’m looking at getting a 2 birt Globescout style with end lounge. So the van is same width the whole length for parking at home. . Is it sensible to rent before spending on a bigger van, or do some people just jump straight in and buy?

I had my T5 for 2 1/2 years before designing my own, bigger, van & having a local convert it for me - it worked a treat

But, I would certainly suggest hiring first, it could potentially save you a lot of money

We hired two before we bought our van, we thought we knew what we wanted but we got it wrong with the first hire and nearly right with the second so when we bought we got it spot on. It could have been an expensive first purchase!!!

As you already have a good idea of what you want in this instance you'll probably be okay. That said there's nothing wrog about hiring before you buy - we did (twice) and got the van that suited us perfectly.

Does the prospective dealer (?) offer a try before you buy option - cost of hire taken off the purchase price?
