Renault Traffic

Just bought used Renault Traffic 1.7 petrol camper, nice condition, but it doesn't like hills!!Anyone suggest a remedy...would a new cluctch help.
I am new to campers..any tips would be welcome.

Hi dekka1947 and welcome :thumb: Is the clutch slipping ? If not you will waste your money fitting a new one.The 1.7 ltr traffic is not the fastest or most powerful engine around so it looks like a bit of gear changing will be required :thumb:You will soon realise that when you get into the van it is relax time No racing or rushing around just soak up the scenery and enjoy your new found freedom :thumb:

Agree with Terry..
campers are for enjoying 'time out' sit back and relax, if it keeps up with HGV traffic it's doing fine ... other than that, visit Holland

Had an Autosleeper Renault Trafic 1.7 petrol automatic, nice van, but slow and did not like hills and would overheat, I suspect van was too heavy for the engine..

i wouldnt change the clutch until your sure its finished if it dosnt slip when going uphill
i would leave it

on my previous self build 1996 diesel high top traffic camper
it was not happy climbing hills usually down to third .

both vehicles were always loaded works van very close to max
best avoid damp grass the weight on the front just dont allow enough grip

the clutch bite is high my works 1996 traffic swb used from new
i got the garage to change the clutch at 35000 miles said it didnt feel right
very little wear on it same with the new clutch 100000 miles later still good

one thing i found you didnt need to use the clutch to change gear

i called both vans snails because every thing about them needed time
reliable and steady just right as a van for motorhome use
miss the self build even now

Only if you detect engine speed rising but road speed not is a clutch reqd:thumb:
