Pretty much got the hang of it now!
Hi All
Has any one got any useful tips for removing lacquer from GRP panels? One of the side panels on my Autotrail has flaking lacquer which looks unsightly. Many years ago I used Nitromors on a GRP boat with disastrous results. Methyl Chloride and GRP is a very bad combination:eek: !!! I cannot find any suitable paint stripper that can be used on GRP so any ideas on how to remove the lacquer safely would be welcome. My son is a manager for Brewers; the decorating suppliers and he cannot think of anything suitable either! Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Cheers

Paul

Wet and dry paper and then polish if ok or new gelcoat if poor???

I’m trying to think why there would be lacquer on a GRP panel.

You normally have a gel coat that’s the bit you see and the reinforcement mat is at the back of the panel.

As said wet and dry will cut it back.

The grp cab roof on my Burstner has had the lacquer come off in sheets (not a unique occurrence apparently) and a carefully directed pressure washer shifted the majority of the remainder, if you can direct it under the lacquer. A plastic trim remover tool has shifted some of the more tenacious bits, but you have to start at a loose edge.

Hi All
Thanks for all the tips. Yes I don't know why there's lacquer. The gel coat looks fine where the lacquer has come off. I will try the removal ideas when I return home.
Thanks again.
