Picked up quite a large crack in the windscreen last week when in France. Insurance is happy to replace the screen or repair, my choice. Of course replacement seems the best solution however i wondered if i'll have to take the front Remis out ? Anyone have any experience of this and know if they can stay in or if the glass companies typically insist on them being removed before stating their work, then the 2nd question is how difficult is it to remove them ???

They seem so fragile that i can imagine they are a right ball ache to remove and replace etc:(

Plan B i just ask them to glue the crack ?

I would check if the crack is big enough to be an mot fail if so its just putting it off and they might be reluctant to pay for a repair and a replcement later. Also if left with a crack thats just mot legal it will affect the value if you sell or trade in. Maybe get a dealer to quote to remove and re-install blinds?

I would take them off as if they are like mine there are only a few screws holding them on and they are very fragile ,patience and the right time to do it are key.

Remis stayed in on our Coach built Burstner. Car Glass Spain were very professional with the removal and replacement all of which was done from outside the vehicle. HTH

Yes very helpful, it's also Carglass doing mine. Just a bit concerned that if i leave them in and then they expect them to be out that i won't have too much time to whip them out....

Once i get a call from the fitter i'll ask him, but based on this i may leave them where they are.

I removed and refitted my front Remis cab blinds when I routed the cable for a DAB aerial and it was pretty much a reversal of fitting to get them.

Here's a YouTube video of a guy fitting the blinds to give you an idea if you want to take it on yourself.

I would watch from 10 minutes in for the part your interested in.

Don't see why they would want them out as the windscreen is sat on the outside of the A pillars

I was lucky enough to get to have two new windscreens last year and niether time did the fitters ask or even comment about the blinds. I think you'l be ok. You should make it clear to the fitters when booking that it's a motorhome as they need either a two man fit or a specials van. Apparently.

I recently fitted Remis blinds to my cab. All they do is replace the clip-on A-pillar plastic covers with ones that contain a rolling blind. The top rail is supported with screws into the headliner with some plasterboard screws. It takes about 10 minutes to take it out... although it's a bit faffy and spindly and two pairs of hands is useful.

However, for the front windscreen I don't think it'll get in the way of the fitters. They don't strip off internal trim and the blinds are no more intrusive than trim, so it shouldn't be an issue.

OK so i'm going to leave them in then, sounds like it will be fine.

Now knowing my luck i'll get the most awkward and difficult glass fitter known to man  but to be fair the last fitter that came to replace the glass on my wife car after a deer strike was super helpful and even vacuumed out the old glass.

It seems that there's no issue with the Remis staying in, they were more concerned about the alarm sensor being stuck on the inside of the windscreen. In any case the new screen is going in as we speak.

Just to close the loop on this as my Remis did indeed cause an unforeseen (by me) small issue.

Certainly the fitters did not need them to come out, no issue there.

New screen fitted and all was good. Got back to the barn to put her away and suddenly realised that my factory fit Remis had a small cut out where the rear mirror stork was mounted, the stork was left in place by the factory as they had mounted the reversing cam screen on it. Of course the fitters didn't know this and yes you guessed it when they re-fitted the stork onto the new screen it wasn't in exactly the same place and hence the Remis wouldn't close...

Dremel out and a bit of fettling later and all was good.

It could have been avoided if i had advised the glass fitters that the stork needed to back to the same place.

Just thought this info may be useful to someone one day.

Two on Tour , Can I ask if it was easy to remove the front remis blinds. I am trying to fit a DAB windscreen antenna and I have remis blinds fitted - just wondering how easy it was to unclip them from the pillars?

Fairly easy, but it's much easier with two people or you need to be an octopus. :giggle:

Pull your door seal rubbers away from the Remis "A" post pillar covers.
Once you unscrew the bottom rod center bracket (you may need a bit of heat to release the sticky pad) and unscrew the top pelmet from the headlining, then ease the top and bottom rods away from the windscreen which will take tension off the Remis "A" post pillar covers. You can then pop the Remis "A" post pillar covers off, but be careful to remember the tweeter wiring need to come off the tweeters.

Back in is the reverse.
