Going to get this done. I have read many views on pros and cons so that's not for this thread.

Are there good and bad companies?
Who did you use?
What was your experience with yours?
Have you used any around Tyne & Wear?
What did you pay?
Any other advice about choosing a supplier?

We have a 3.0l Ducato on our A Class and had a remap by Quantum (I think!) through a recommendation. Really tell the difference in torque etc. we use a TOAD in the U.K. and it really makes a difference.

What sort of base vehicle do you have ? We have a Mk7 Transit which I am considering having remapped. I will be meeting up with a relation of ours who owns a garage this weekend. I am going to ask his advice as to the pros and cons of remapping and if it is a good idea how to find a good place to do it.

Will let you know what he says.

2017 Ducato 2.3 150bhp euro 6 non ad blue. This version of Fiat is so sluggish/high geared? compared to previous editions. the remap is to cut out unnecessary gearchanges e.g. on motorway inclines.

They nearly all use the same generic maps available widely online. Unless they are putting it on a rolling road then there's little between any of them. You can do it yourself for under £100 including the software.

Thanks. I think I'd rather have somebody to blame if it goes wrong.

Quantum for me, local technicians who by a licence to install, they do it by plugging into the OBD socket and sending a file from your van to Quantum who then match their remapping software to your van and upload, it takes around 15/20mins. Had mine done around 8/9 months ago and it’s been great, better torque, better acceleration and or fuel economy. Don’t listen to the doomsayers going on about it straining your engine, it won’t.

I’m with you on that! As they say it’s only easy if you know how! And I don’t know how….😜
I have had 3 vehicles remapped over the years and all three are still on the road 👏

All they'll be doing is setting the checksum, nothing to do with the actual mapping parameters

Is there any insurance impact if you remap your vehicle?

The ECU checks that the expected number of bits/bytes in the map file are correct - checksum. The remap changes the number of bits/bytes in the file so the ECU has to be told the revised number to get an OK to do it's thing.
Thanks for clearing that up, I thought I needed a degree 😝😝👍🏻👍🏻🤣🤣🤣

Mines the same, a pre-adblue 150 euro 6. Only 3.5t, but with full A-class wind resistance. If I charge up the hills at the speed limit, the turbo stays on song. But if I want reasonable mpg and I slow to 60'ish, many hills are downshifts, particularly in a headwind.

It feels slower than my previous PVC which had a 120 engine. It can actually feel ok under acceleration if I floor it at lower speed and keep feeding the gears, but once I'm cruising, the turbo spins down and needs a downshift to bring it back to life.

I had it done on my old Fiat 2.8 jtd.

My criteria was to give me more torque to avoid changing down from the high 5th gear ratio on inclines, nothing about fuel consumption.

It was done to my spec by Alex at Boosters, but unfortunately for you he is in Norfolk, although came to Peterborough Services to do the job.

Mine has performed as I wanted it.

Tell them what you what the remap to achieve.

Most seem to mention stage one remap (150 to 180 bhp)

I've only had it done once so can't really recommend my guy being any better than any other.
I would agree with others that they all seem to use the same software upgrade and only vary on how much they want to charge - £199 in my case.
They could quote you any power increase - you'll not be able to confirm it. All I noticed was that the engine was a little more responsive but definitely smoother.

Maybe worth contacting Quantum, I’d be very surprised if they don’t have a guy close to you and also if they can’t remap your van. I thought they pretty much had all versions covered, especially the popular engines Fiat, Merc etc.

Yes, that was just the table shown on their website. I'm sure it wasn't their full range.

We had our Iveco 3.0 remapped definitely quieter/smoother as you do not have to Rev it so hard also seems to change up the box quicker ie select a higher gear sooner it’s a Zf auto best fuel return we get is 21.5 mpg not bad considering 6.7 ton and as areo dynamic as a loaf of bread, all in quite happy.🙂

I had mine done by a Quantum agent at a Peterborough Show a few years ago, difference was immediately noticeable with improved torque and generally running quieter and smoother. The guy told me power was increased from 130bhp to 148bhp as I had requested a balanced improvement rather than out and out power. It didn't do a lot to improve the fuel consumption, maybe 2-3mpg if I don't push it, but the van is altogether much nicer to drive.
I did tell the insurance but they weren't interested.

One issue with remaps is it's quite easy to fool the customer into thinking they've got more when nothing has really changed. Just altering the throttle pedal mapping so power comes on with less foot movement can make your vehicle feel peppy without actually improving torque or power.

I wouldn't recommend anyone remapping their vehicle without it going on the rolling road. The tests run on the RR before the remap is done show up any potential problems beforehand. There are loads of documented stories of people with poor maps which have caused all kinds of problems. The run after the remap should show the change in power output, and the power lines on the graph should be smooth and progressive. I'd take my van to PP Tuning in Louth or TH Performance Ltd on the south coast, both of whom have a massive number of positive comments on a number of forums (and I can personally vouch for excellent service at PP Tuning), who both offer Pendle tuning.

That’s who we used to do our old Burstner Argos. 👍

Been reading lots of reviews of various remappers. It's enough to scare a ghost off.
Mind, most of the one stars look like fakes. Seems it's the wild west out there with competitors using dirty tricks to discredit the opposition. But some also have genuine horror stories.
Quantum, much recommended on here have some of the worst reviews.
