Caravan before 2000 / Motorhome From 2018 to 22 / Now Caravan again.
Reich Caravan Weight Control will weigh up to 1500 kg per wheel

Can someone explain the differences.

There is a yellow one that weighs up to 1000kg
Another Yellow one that weights up to 1500kg
And a red one that goes up to 1500kg

Is it the yellow ones are for caravans and the red one is for the heavy motorhomes?

So why two yellow scales?

From the Ebay description below

"The version for 1,500 kg can also be used for tandem axle "

If you know your empty weight and have a rough idea that you're well in thats a lot of money to spend!

I have an orange one that weighs up to 1500 kgs.

I would take no notice if the sales pitch is "This can do a tandem axle" as all you need to do is weigh 6 wheels and write down each wheel then add them up, whereas the "the tandem axle" one will add them up for you.

In terms of buying one, they were cheaper to buy them directly form Germany than Ebay though i didnt have amazon prime at the time, but i remember Ebay were the most expensive and it was probably somebody receiving an email and then buying it from the company to send to you and making 20 quid for the process.

Dead simple to use, add batteries, run over wheels, add up, then purchase then amount of wine you can with the spare weight (or not)

Also have the orange one, checked it against a weighbridge, spot on.
Better if there are two of you to save all the getting in and out, but yeah recommend it.

The reason for my post was I’ve seen two yellow ones with 1000kg and 1500kg and the red one also at 1500kg.

So hence the question are there three types or just two?

Ignore the colour. it doesnt matter to my knowledge

It either weighs at 1,000 kgs (not very recommended on van that has 3,500 kgs weight unevenly distributed) of it weighs 1,500 kgs.
Once you have made your mind up that you need the 1,500 kgs then choose your colour like its a fashion accessory

I have the orange one somewhere in the garage that goes up to 1500 kg. Could not get a consistent reading by running over them, you need to be on concrete or tarmac and my drive is all gravel. I did use them by using the nose weight icon and jacking the wheel up and dropping it down and then just add up the four weights.

I remember going to Reich in Germany and getting it sent over.

I cant find that link

Have found them for £160 on Amazon
Amazon product ASIN B00LW57Y92

NB the yellow one although called the 1500 looks as it it only weighs 1,000 kg.
Mine is orange and weighs 1500 kgs
If your van is 3,500 kgs or more then 1,000kgs per wheel is not going to butter the parsnip

The link above for the amazon one should therefore be ignored

£240 from Australia on ebay
Cant find one on amazon
Google quick search reveals £180 Broken Link Removed
Here is the link for the one i got from Reich but how you buy it will need a bit of research on here

Thank you.

I am going to try and buy the 1500Kg version. Carry it with us. Our motorhome is 3,850 Kg. I worry a lot about getting stopped i Europe, Australia and Switzerland in particular.

So for the sake of £180 or so, I would rather have piece of mind and avoid fines.

The piece of mind is worth it in my view.

They weigh 2kgs so make sure you have enough spare to be able to carry it !

I would advise you to try the Reich before you buy.

I built a large flat level concrete pad a few years ago, for vehicle maintenance. When I had a 1500kg Reich I tried repeatedly to weigh various bits of kit: Caravans, twin axle trailers, cars, motorhomes ect.

To say the results were random would be as far as I would go.
The results were not repeatable.
Go slowly, go quickly, stop on the pads, use same thickness pads under opposite wheel................Nothing I ever did gave me more than a rough idea of the weights.

One good thing, I sold them on Ebay for a profit.

Thanks for the info.

my Thoughts were to get the motorhome weighed first at a Weybridge and then to try the Reich.

I just noticed that a lot of people mentioned that they had seen the authorities on the continent use the Reichs at the side of the road.

For example in Germany when leaving the motorhome shows in Düsseldorf

I bought the orange version from Homestead Caravans, which was the cheapest price that I could find at the time. Currently £172.95.
Regarding the results I obtained, they were within 20Kgs per axle against a weighbridge figure so I'm happy with the gizmo(y)
I have constructed 2 x 2 layer platforms from 18mm plyboard, so the Reich sits in the middle of one. A loose blank sits in the other recess. I set it up drive slowly over, take the reading then swop the Reich and the blank between wheels and drive back to the original starting position. I can then do thing as many times as I want to get an average reading if required. Can send image if there is any interest;)

I still have mine and so far used it twice.

I even managed once or twice to get the same reading going over forwards and backwards but mostly I took several readings on each wheel and averaged them. Now I visit the local scrap yard instead. Thinking of getting the Al-Ko levelling which will weigh it whenever you like, as well as level up the motorhome.
