Does anyone know if there is an expiry date on refillable gas bottles?

Cheers Brian & Lenny, I'm waying up the options between new and pre-owned, so useful info now before purchasing.

It should either be printed or stamped into the bottle somewhere, however some of the earlier 6kg Gaslow bottles just had a code so you have to ring the company and ask what it means. The older Gaslow ones have a 15 year 'life' before they need to be checked/refurbed, whereas later ones are 10 years - I've got one of each and my 15 year one doesn't need checking until 2024 and my other is 2027.

Don't forget to check the pigtails too as they have a lifespan as well, the stainless steel Gaslow ones we have are either 20 or 25 years (can't remember) and the thick rubber one from GasIt is 10 years I believe.

My Gaslow bottles have the re test date stamped on the bottom skirt alongside the tare weight etc. I personally wont worry too much as propane is quite oily stuff, so the chance of them rusting out is quite remote anyway.

Anyone had theirs inspected & re-tested? Just wondering what the cost would be. Looking like a new bottle maybe the best option.

Its the valve you need to get checked which IMV is more important than the cylinder itself which should last for yonks.

When I asked Autogas2000 about testing an Alugas bottle it was nearly as dear as buying a new bottle.

Some info here:

and here:

I am very puzzled by that Minxy Girl. The valves are made of Brass so should not corrode so why do they need checking?

Its not just corrosion but wear and how well they are still sealing that needs testing.

Gaslow are actually doing a refurbished exchange cylinder at I believe £99.00 they are Green ! ?
No stock at the moment but I understand that they will have more in April, most owners are opting to upgrade to the newer R 67 cylinder with multivalve.
All cylinders should have the PRV replaced really ,Gasit are saying that you don’t need to replace cylinders in private Motorhomes ?
Don’t get me started on the NCC and leisure industry obsession with ripping off their customers with requirements to change hoses when unnecessary.
Hoses don’t have an exact expiry date except one type that has the expiry date printed ⚠️

I assume they are green so they can be easily differentiated from the new/non-refurbished ones ... I quite like green - a nice lime green!
