We’re hopefully going back to France for a fortnight in mid October.

I say hopefully as OH ended up in hospital when we came back last week - botched catheter change. The real issue is waiting 15 months for his prostate reduction surgery - he can’t have the normal TURPS as needs more extensive surgery and only one hospital in Scotland can do it.

Anyway back to the issue - we got Nala a pet passport in Bruges (€88 for passport, wormer, 3 years rabies) and reading on here some vets charge the same just for wormer.

I’d prefer not to go back to Bruges. We’ll follow the weather so likely to end up Gruissan/Provence/possibly Atlantic coast. Happy to get wormer in south before we head north or further north either Loire or Normandy.

I’ve seen Minxy goes to a vet in Buchy but all recommendations welcome. How far in advance do we need to book? Thanks.

Purchase your own tablets here, online, and minxy is right on the money. Buchy vet book online few days before your return. Cost me 12 Euros per dog a few weeks ago.

Thanks - is that Clinique Seren’vet and does it matter which vet I choose?

Also on drop down menú do I choose General Consultation as ‘worming’ is not an option.

Thanks!

I did that and the Buchy vet wouldn’t use them as they were not approved by French for vets to use. Sold us his own and didn’t charge an appointment fee, can’t remember how much but around €15

Buchy vets 23€ last Autumn , own tablet one dog.
I think all vets have increased. Our bill in Bruges increased from €74 in April to €88 in July - we had had to reschedule as mum was hospitalised.

Buchy we’re going to charge for one dog ,medical worming tablet and passport signed February 24 , E 64 as we are going home from Dieppe we tryed a few along the coast in Fecamp one was E65 the other E24 for the same, 10 Rue Gustave Nicole 76400 Frecamp 02 35 10 08 08

We've never had a problem finding a vet on the way back to the channel ports. We usually have a 2/3 night stop on our way back and use a local vet in the town where we stop. Don't recall paying more than E30, and the vets give the dog a thorough going over.

This map may be of some help but it doesn't appear to have been updated much over the last few years.

All interesting. My post was for October 23 but I think we’re hopefully going out October 24 as well all being well!

Just been chatting to a couple who got their dog passport last year in Spain who we then used ... Amazing how we just happened to be on the same aire!

We recommend Buchy to them as a French vet they'd rung was quoting €58 for a small dog! They rang Buchy and we're told the charge would be €25 for the consultation plus €10 for the tablet for a dog up to 10kg. As they only have Bob Martin type tablets which wouldn't be accepted as they don't have Praziquantel in them we gave them a couple of Drontal tasty bone ones just in case their dog is over 10kg. We've also told them where to buy the tablets in the UK too to save dosh.

We went to vet in Phalsbourg near Saverne just off Jtn 43 on A4/E25 today (en route from Strasbourg to Calais). Easy parking at rear for 7m & could be longer if not too many cars there. Not very exciting town but useful to be so close to motorway. 73 Euros for 2 dogs wormer & sign EU pet passport. Book by phone & all in English.

We use the vets in Neufchâtel en Bray. Overnight in the Aire then walk to the vets. They are not cheap, but easy access and speak English if needed. They have just given Jacques his Rabies booster as well as worming. You can book online.

I have found some French Vets will use your own vets wormer and some Vets simply won’t.
Great vet near Les Mans, La Flèche - CLINIQUE VETERINAIRE ADVETAM. Cheaper than others and did use our own tablets. English speaking and issued us passports.

Was it recently that you obtained Pet Passports from this vet, please? If so, did they use your UK address? All details useful. (y)

We were on the way home from Chartres last week and called ahead and arranged a visit to the Clinique Veterinaire Saint Mathieu in Houdan for the wormer and the PP stamp. When we arrived they had no vet on duty and we were sent away and told to come back 90 minutes later. Was also the most expensive we've ever had at €49. Would not recommend this vet.

Just back from France, we used a vet at Neufchâtel en bray for worming and some other treatment cost 44 euros
Good aire in town as well although gets busy
Book vets on line up to two months in advance

The vet left our address blank for us to fill in. In return to uk with our AHC paperwork, we showed the lady our passports and she checked them over for us, confirmed all was well and just advised to fill in uk address. They returned on the AHC paperwork as that is what they went into France on. The vet filled in all the details of wormer etc on both docs, fyi we opted to have a new rabies for each of the dogs to go in new passport so it was all there for date of issue.

Great stuff! Thank you for that info - I will add them to my list of helpful French vets. (y)

We've used the vet in buchy last two times now, very friendly and helpful. They have a resident golden retriever and as we have one too, he joined us for the appointment! I used pet passport option on drop down box you then can write in box. The price had gone up last time to around 40 euro from 27...but Freddie is 38kg.

We were going to the vet in bruges for a pet passport this time but we are coming home earlier than planned and I have managed to find vet in Perl on Germany/Luxembourg border who comes recommended & will still issue pet passport so going there on route. Quite a bit cheaper too so fingers crossed it works OK!
