Recommendations on Where to Buy a Spanish Registered PVC Please?

Hispavan, at Antas, near Vera, Almeria is a large Anglo / Spanish motorhome dealer. The business is directly adjacent to the motorway junction, and probably about two hours or less south from Alicante.

We found them very helpful when we needed some emergency assistance and I know plenty of other Brits that have used their services successfully. No experience of buying a van from them, but I'd certainly be talking to them if I wanted a Spanish-registered one.

I bet you wish you had kept the La Strada regent now? Mercedes RWD
Yes and no.

It was a brilliant piece of kit (once I had modified the shockingly poor factory fridge vent issue).

But everyone loved it except us. I lost count the amount of people who wanted to look inside it and said they had camper envy.

It didn't do everything it looked liked it should.

Good Points:

* V6 Engine
* 5G-Tronic Gearbox (the seven is better I have in my Sprinter Van)
* Great Traction from RWD/Winter Tyres.
* Very warm even in -17c
* Part Winterised
* LHD
* Reasonably Easy to Park
* One Piece Cast Habitation Body
* Leather Interior

Downsides:

* Low headroom and awkward to move around drop down bed
* Uncomfortable to lounge in
* Not great in Side winds
* Odd 3/4 rear bed (should of been made that bit wider)
* No Oven
* For the size of the thing, kind of Hybrid Motorhome / Camper combined it wasn't that roomy
* The bathroom basin was stupid large making access to the show tight.

They are like hens teeth at the moment. I sold it for what I paid for it 18 months on. Though I Had spent £10,000 on extras (Retail) as I did most of the work , excluding the tow bar myself. If I had it now, I would probably have people fighting for it.

Would I like it back?, yes please?

large Anglo / Spanish
Has Leo sold it? He is Dutch.

I bought a van from them 7 years ago. no problems. All paperwork in hand on pick -up , which is what counts here.

Privately I would always use Milanuncios.

click on Motors
click on Autocaravanas
change 'todo españa' to 'com.Valencia' then either leave it on Todas las provincias or choose one.
change 'combustible' to diesel which is done after clickig on 'Más filtros'

at the top where it says "estaoy buscando" put in merecedes that then shows you tye 15 avaiable in Com.de Valencia at the moment

they've 'improved' the search recently :xrofl:so it is now worse.
Before after you had looked at results you could modify the 'com de valencia' & it would state 'más cerca' immediately under regions which if clicked on dragged in cataluña,murcia & aragon provinces nearest . It no longer does that.

(I dont know who owns it but the very helpful people we dealt with were British and Spanish.)
Assume you mean Hispavan?

The British director we met there had a passion for restoring Range Rovers and particularly their engines I recall - one he showed us looked like a heck of a big project. :unsure: (y)

When I bought the only 2x Brits were Julian who did most of the repairs etc & Barbara on reception. Spanish bloke did the accounts & Leo ,who does still own it I just checked, & is Dutch.
I always meant to ask , but never did, how he came to run a business in Antas when he lives in Alicante & travelled daily. I did ask why he didn't live there & he said "my wife is from Alicante, enough said" :laughing:

To the OP EuroTrotters . Thinking about it ,it might well be worth ringing Hispavan & speaking to Leo about what you want as he has contacts all over spain & would be ideally placed to hunt something down or know of something that is not necessarily on sale or advertised at the moment. If he is still living in Alicante he might well bring up stuff for you to look at which used to be done years ago.

I changed the search to "todo españa" leaving in merc & there are only 240 shown as available but some not that far away yet won't come up in Com de valencia searches.

Or if someone is looking to sell?

Prefer RWD Mercedes Benz Sprinter Auto.

But will consider anything with Auto / Semi-Auto box.

Looking to spend €35,000 max
If you are going to get a Spanish registered one what's the problem in getting one from Germany now. You will get caught for the import duty 10% I think, but that will be in the price of a Spanish one anyway.

I like the idea of something that’s spent most of its life out of salted roads.

I wouldn’t worry too much regarding if the roads have been salted where you buy it from, just check underneath the chassis.

Very interesting Spanish market for buying and selling vans just now.....getting a good secondhand van is becoming a problem due to the increasing popularity of motorhoming in general...last year you could be lucky to pick up a Spanish registered vehicle from those who returned home in fear of what could happen post "B"
The Spanish family vans, large in bed numbers are a favorite, as are the smaller PVC which suit the more sportier types, the younger generation favour these...without doubt we will buy in Germany our next van, I do feel many Spanish vans are overused and overpriced, except ours of course....I would expect to sell ours at the same price we paid 7 or 8 years ago....we were lucky to be in the right place at the right time buying from a couple who had outgrown the van....Keep searching, you may need to increase your budget...

Yes I did look at the pictures for that one but for me , was put off by the swb which I'm sure it is? I would want a good look at it. See what insulation has been used etc.Remember it isn't a 'make' but built by one of the many spanish campervan builders & appears to have been done about 3 years ago on a 2011 base. So price is to me well on the high side. Although having said that if it is what you want .
I was surprised to see a couple of La Stradas on the 'todo españa' along witha couple of reasonable Rimors.

It’s a SWB which is what we want.

I like the CS Amigo but don’t see them in Spain.

SWB’s are a tad longer than an Audi Q7. Very easy to manoeuvre, park and turn on a sixpence.
There looks a nice CS Rondo on mobile.de 3 litre engine for 38500 euros at CM mobile dealership. MWB though just under 6 metre.

Thanks, I’ve seen that.

I don’t like that layout and looking not to compromise on the 5.24m SWB.

I driven 3 SWB’s for 15 years and they are a dream, like a giant e-class.

Yes, I’ve had problems with my 3 sprinter motorhomes. But I just like these.

Looks nice, is that the MWB or SWB?
I made an enquiry and had a reply.

Hola Trevor

(
Hi trevor
We made the van-camper in a specialized workshop in Elche.
She has two-layer thermal insulation insulation.
Heats up from diesel
Anyway, if you are interested, you can come see it whenever you want, I am in Catral-Crevillente, it is near Jávea.
She is new and very very well cared for.)

They have sent me a video. The conversion looks okay, something inbetween a GOOD DIY and a profesional one. But not up to Some of the good German standards.

I noticed it’s built on a 2 series chassis. That may effect payload. But if the conversion has be kept low enough, weight wise. It may allow you to tow a small trailer or caravan without going over the GTW limit for a standard Spanish license.

Do any of our knowledgeable Spanish residents here know the limits on that ?.

I know a couple of blokes in Spain I could ask if they don’t. They do the Marco challenge so should have some info.

If it does not alreadyhh ave a towbar, then it will cost about 500+ € to have one fitted as it need to be homologated and added to the ficha tecnica.
Ask him to send a photo of the Mercedes weight plate and also a copy of the ficha tecnica. This will show the MAM and the MTW for both braked and unbraked trailers.because the van won't necessarily be 3500kgs.it could be any weight that merc sell.
