Sorting old travel diaries I have enjoyed the memories from our Iceland trip in 2015.Can highly recommend a visit when possible. We went for a month and should have taken at least 6 weeks. Probably the most expensive ferry in the world? but a great place to tour. Superb wild camping in fantastic scenery.
Fly drive if necessary, at least you can can enjoy a part.

Lovely country. Shame they’re whale hunting s**m 🤬
Oops. mrskevenh got my iPad. Soz.

Well, she’s not wrong. Luckily we had a 24hr sun visit before they returned to hunting water based mammals.
We enjoyed trips in their monster trucks on (and off) cinder roads. Not so much of that old road type left, I assume.

I watched the Ben Fogle programme Tuesday evening and it was with this Icelander that had dropped out , Iceland looks incredibly beautiful.

I took Brenda on a holiday to Iceland... well more a day trip. And we were home by the time they delivered the groceries

I was typing almost exactly that.

Ferry from where?
We went 2016 and going back 2023 but taking the van might be more fun

Our Son has been many times, has also done the trip around the coast on the cargo / mail ship,
Says it is a wonderful place,
His photographs are out of this world

I was fortunate to go on a 5 day business Jolly back in 2008, had a brilliant time lovely country, would image it could be very expensive holiday, I think a pint of larger back then was over £5. Had a wonderful meal at the Perlan revolving restaurant just outside Reykjavik.

I preferred it when they were called Bejam.....

We went in 2019 for two weeks. We did a flew and hired a car. Saw lots of motor homes looked fun. We stayed in Airbnb’s and drove round the whole island. It was the most amazing trip! Icelandic drivers are a bit fast and wanted to over take us all the time even in the fog. Not sure we could afford longer there food is so expensive. Took us a day or so to get used to it. Then we just adjusted what we ate.

Rough idea of the ferry price please? Something I would love to do! 😀

We've done Iceland on a cruise. but we go by car to the Faroes every year. Harwich to Hook of Holland, 1000km to Hirtshals then Norrona for 30+ hours to Torshavn. Another 13/14 hours or so to Iceland. You get a few hours in Torshavn on the return journey, enough to have a wander around town or take a sightseeing trip as I don't think you can take the vehicle off unless you make it part of the trip and rejoin on the next sailing days later. Hirtshals to Torshavn and return costs us around DKK 6000 depending on season for a car and cabin for two, that's ignoring the Stena Line sailing which is around £325 or so. Motorhome? Expensive but you would save something on the hotel stays on the long road journey.

We took lots of our own favourite foods. Supermarkets about 50% more expensive. Spent all our money on the ferry so nothing left for expensive restaurants and bats😁

Iceland, no faults found. Delivered every week since well before Christmas.

Yes don’t blame you! We found veggies and fruit so expensive! It was a huge shock. But we stopped converting after a while. Only ate out a few times in cheaper places. Mostly cooked ourselves dinner. Infact our whole concept of value changed by the end of the trip if we found a beer in a pub for 1000 (about £10) we thought that’s cheap 🤣.
