I’m trying to figure the best route for a twin lens rear view camera and separate dashcam rear camera on a 2001 Auto-sleeper Clubman. The Clubman comprises a fibreglass pod bolted to a VW T4 chassis cab. It looks like I can remove a panel in the back of the cupboard above the rear sink/hob to get a route from outside to inside, but then where? It looks feasible to go under the van in a flexible conduit but I don’t fancy spending hours (days?) grovelling underneath, but then it looks like a nightmare to go inside the van. Hoping for suggestions (apart from get a wireless system).

Sorry dont know your van but if you can get to the bottom at the back of the cupboards/seats you may find you can fish the cables through with a length of stiff wire.

I’ve been rummaging around inside the van all afternoon looking for high up and low down routes. Low isn’t feasible on either side, there is the entrance door on one and bathroom on the other. Even considered going between the headlining and underside of the roof! I have asked the supplier if there is a magic box to make it wireless, but I can probably guess the answer.

Iwould suggest you get hold of an electricians snake to assist in pulling through the cabling.

Don't know the setup but you might consider running under the body in cable shroud, clipped to the under frame, and up into the engine or dashboard at a suitable location.

That’s what the solution is looking like, grovelling on my back with crud falling in my face… wish I was 20 again, maybe 50 would help!

I earlier spotted some badly installed thick red wires taped at the back of the passenger side roof lockers. Didn’t know what they were for but have now figured they are a modified leisure battery charging circuit running all the way from the relays in the engine compartment to the Zig controller at the back. There must be a route…. I need to follow them (and install some trunking!)

I have a snake and a set of thin fibreglass rods… last used doing the same job on a converted Boxer van, I just need to work out where to poke them!

Our first ‘van was a ’W’ reg clubman (2000) - I stuck a dash cam onto the rear window above the sink, and relied on the view through the window and rear view mirror to see what was behind. Parking sensors were already fitted by the previous owner, fortunately (y) . Good luck with the wiring, but, as I recall, the best way to the cab is underneath the ‘van and up through the engine compartment……

Having looked again at the route taken by the modified charging circuit wires they just disappear and re-appear in the engine compartment. No idea where they go in between without ripping things apart inside. I think underneath is the most straightforward option, but my old bones are not looking forward to it! Thanks everyone for your interest and suggestions, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Well, just to finish off, day 3 and I found a route.

Behind the cabinets above the rear window, behind the panel across the top of the service door, down behind the cocktail cabinet and fridge, across the bottom of the fridge cavity, behind the panel at the back of the passenger side bench, around the side of the bench and down into the passenger door step (the only exposed part) under the plastic door step liner, behind the rubber cover on the passenger side wheel arch, up under the dash and eventually through a hole made top centre of the dashboard (worst part, an absolute pain). I started from behind the bench seat pulling through backwards to the rear and forwards to the dashboard. The excess cable can be coiled up and hidden there.

Now all I have to do is connect up, test, adjust and put back everything I had to remove! If anyone has a similar Auto-sleeper (Clubman, Executive, Gatcombe and probably others) and wants to do the same do get in touch for the details. It’s actually straightforward once you know how!
