I wondering what would be involved in fitting a switch at the front to retract the rear step on a 2001 B584.

Have a dig around, some had this facility and the wiring might already be there.

I have one just under the indicator switch left of the steering wheel its just for retracting the step only 2005 655 starline

It would interesting to know what wiring that switch has and is just a non latching rocker type.

A relay would be better as it could be energised when the engine is started.

Its just a basic rocker switch mate I don't have a buzzer on my van or its bust but its nice you can retract the step before you drive away

I am surprised you’re step isn’t wired to retract when the ignition is turned on. Our Rienza has a buzzer to warn the step is out as well. At the moment ours is playing up. The wiring was ripped off the step last year and has been an on going saga getting it sorted.
Once the lockdown has eased I will try fitting a new retraction relay.
