We need to buy some more dollars for upcoming travel, for a number of years we have used Travel FX to purchase dollars and Halifax clarity for card purchases. Anyone know of any better way to exchange travel money to get the most out of your hard earned cash.

If you are going to mainland US, I would just use plastic with a small amount of cash
Nationwide card is a really good rate

Good advice, however, not USA and in a number of areas we will need cash, although card is now almost universal I agree.

Revolut...... many family members have use it traveling all over USA ...best rates....(y)

Think Nationwide is only fee/commission free in Europe.

I use Starling Bank now
They're online only.
Pay a small % interest on credit balances
Fee/commission free worldwide forex.
Their app is really good & fast in helping you keep track of spending.

Like the look of the Starling card, same rate as Clarity, however, you use it as a debit card so no interest accumulating between spend and paying card off for cash withdrawals. Demonstrates the need to keep shopping around. Thanks

Nationwide not "fee free" in USA but massively better day to day rate than Barclay card and RBS on recent trip when examining bills side by side
OP says not USA anyway so my comment not valid

When we where going over on a regular basis, I had a Chase bank account for cash, and The now defunct Santander "Zero" card. Worked OK for over 5 years.

That’s why with a Revolut card you keep the money where it’s earning and only put money in and change to dollars when you need it, instantly... I’ve never seen a better rate....(y)

I use it for a €1.25 drink contact less .....

I don think I’ve ever took out €100 in a month, I only take out cash for tips....

I use it for what it’s for, paying my bill....

I still use my Santander Zero card. Why is yours defunct?

Yes, It IS still useable, and I do use it. BUT it is no longer issued Santander stopped it some time ago, only those who already had it, can get the 0% / no fee abroad facility now. The card which replaced it does not have that facility.

Ah, see what you mean, no longer available rather than defunct.

Yes can see it being fine in those circumstances, seems there is quite a few good options out there for card payment although Clarity card is still up there with them, Starling and Revolut looking good. Just need to work out which one is best for cash withdrawals and I'll be happy.

You are right.(y) I am sure I had a communication in the recent past to the effect it had been withdrawn?.. I suppose it is possible they did, and then had a re-think in view of the fact that there where competitive alternatives in the Market,? I dont know?. I used mine only this morning.
