Hi, Anyone out there had a windscreen changed on an A class just wondered how the screen fitters got on with the black side panels did they get them off and on in one piece.
Many Thanks Bill

The side panels come off separately and are refitted with sealant at the end.
If your insurance permits, insist on a Rapido screen and not a bespoke one. My replacement is Rapido marked, and manufactured by St Gobain.
Cheers
Ed

Yes, and yes. Twice!
Actually, thrice as one of the replacements had a stress fracture within a week of it being fitted so it had to be replaced again!

Whichever company does the replacement make sure they allocate the fitting team which are experienced with fitting to trucks and coaches not just cars, as there have been some 'horror stories' on various MH forums about car fitters getting it wrong.

Thanks for your replies will sort it out in a few weeks no rush not going anywhere soon. Bill

Also make sure they supply a genuine OEM screen not a cheap pattern part.
That reminds me I've got to get the screen replaced on my Hymer.

Anyone any idea how much an A class windscreen might be on a Hymer? Mine has a heating element in it so guess expensive!?

A standard one depending on model around £1200 - £1600 a heated one probably a few arms & legs. :giggle:

Thanks for your reply Bill, thankfully I don’t have a windscreen issue at the moment. What I am doing is reviewing insurance quotations and am interested to see if the cover some policies offer is actually enough?

Thanks to Lenny for the info

Safeguard sent Autoglass to look at my Hymer heated front screen. They assessed and had a replacement date in about a week. Specials team turned up with a genuine oem part, and they showed me it was. It took 2 fitters a couple of hours to do the work, excellent start to finish.

The cost of a screen and the cost of getting a screen fitted are quite different, the fitted cost for a standard Hymer screen is going to be around £2k to £2.5K. For your heated screen I would be looking at policies with unlimited windscreen cover.

Just as an add on insured with Comfort and on Autoglass job sheet it shows glass limit of £10,000, in insurance T & C it shows National windscreen limit £3000, Autoglass unlimited. Bill
