You need to fit an on/off switch in the power wire.
Just turning the radio off at its power button only puts it in standby mode and the amplifier is still powered. Like this it still uses a lot of power over a few hours of inactivity.
Of course, that means any saved stations will be lost.
In its normal configuration switching off the ignition cuts everything except its memory.
