Hey Everyone,

What do you guys do for music when not travelling?

Obviously the dash radio turns itself off after a few minutes to save the battery so do you fit an extra 12v car stereo in the back?

Cheers, Ady

We have lovely speakers in the back of our auto trail, but as you say, the radio turns itself off after 20 minutes, & as it’s the new model, the only work around would be rewiring! 🤬 I tend to use the tv or Firestick for radio, as the tv has reasonable sound. I wish they hadn’t put the speakers in though, as they just seem to laugh at me from what could have been extra cupboard space!! 😂

I've run a lead to the leisure battery and power it from there, also have a unit that I can control from my phone so we don't have to get out of bed to turn it off. (2004 Boxer, so less risk of getting an airbag in the face when messing about behind the dashboard than there is with newer vehicles).

Same here. When we have been driving along, perhaps struggling to hear over the not inconsiderable road noise from the Ducato, it is always a surprise to go to the back and hear all this lovely sound coming out.

The Zenec on our Hymer is wired to the leisure batteries also comes with a remote control so you can switch on or off whilst lying in bed. There is a cut off switch on the dash to stop the radio from flattening the batteries when layed up.

As said above wire the stereo to the leisure battery..

Use your phone with either Bluetooth or aux cable into the stereo

Or if you have a Bluetooth speaker connect that to your phone...if you have FM radio on it it's free but will only work by using an aux cable...this is the aerial then.
Or if you have plenty of data use that to play what you want through the Bluetooth speaker on the back..

Wire the van radio to the leisure battery.
Is the timer on white van mans radio not internal to the radio? I was under the impression it was. I have spent a great deal of time trying to find out how to bypass the 20 minute timer and given up in favour of listening to the radio channels on the Astra satellite. Of course it is fine when driving.

We use a portable DAB radio, which charges while driving or on hook up, for my own music I use a flac player which I play through the DAB line I earphones

You may be correct, I changed the original radio that was installed in the van when new through the menu to 180 minutes . I then removed that one and put in a double din one and that is wired to the leisure battery.

I use a dewalt site radio. Free to air and no app data required. I can take it with me anywhere I go and can leave the van behind. If I want certain station then I will use app via pad or phone.

Not going to help you I am afraid, but I have never tried to use the radio on site.

I just love peace and quiet.

Having an older Ford based motorhome we don’t have issue of the radio turning off. I have a good selection CD,s if I can get management out of Classic FM.
I was offered a digital tuner thing from our daughters Mini but I can’t see it working well with the overhang on our Rienza.

We use Radio Garden (free app). You can choose any radio station anywhere in Europe.

Using the TV is fine on ehu, but uses a lot more power than a Bluetooth speaker if trying to preserve battery.
