Hi

I guess this is aimed more at full timers or anyone living in a motorhome for an extended period without a permanent address.

Our house is on the market but we have not yet decided where we will be moving to and plan to look at several areas and then look for a house.

So we could be in our motorhome of many months, or other short term accommodation.

What do you do about a registered doctors and vets, we won't want to have to travel back to our current location just for a doctors appointment!

Many thanks for the help.

Our van is registered at my sister in law's address, as is everything else, banking, insurance, all that stuff. She lives about 20 miles away from our old address. We've kept our original doctor and dentist by changing our address with them to a neighbour.

Does that make sense?

We did similar. All banking, insurance etc to Mother in laws, we even pay council tax and on the electoral role there. However, doctors, dentist and vets are all registered at a friends in Market Harborough, so we didn't have to change any of those. When we finally finish our house build we will be back in that area.

Registered at ‘home’ (MiL‘s home that is owned by her children) Doctor stays where it is-at ‘home’ same with Dentist.
Vet isn’t a problem you can use any Vet anywhere and use ‘home’ address,
Our last dog was registered at about 6 different Vets and Pip is already registered at 3 Vets!

It’s probably worth having a ”home” address where you keep all your banking etc and keep a GP there as your official one even if you never go eg. friend or relative as others have said. You can then see a GP wherever you happen to be as a Temporary Resident in an emergency. This is much easier than being seen as a genuine NFO (no fixed abode) person. It means that everything will stay recorded and linked up.

If you are on regular medication it will be worth going back there once or twice a year just for monitoring I would imagine. You won’t risk missing routine screening invites either.

As a retired GP that’s what I’d advise, much safer. Causes much less hassle all round, for you and practices when you need to be seen!

Have you thought about your MH insurance? If you don't have a registered home (eg bricks & mortar) it may mean you are considered a full-timer and have to pay a much higher price.

I use my mothers address for everything. I cover the extra costs of her council tax that she would save as a sole occupant. When im not traveling my van is parked there and id also suggest never ever mentioning the words "full time " to your insurance company. The costs will escalate because they assume if you are fulltime and anything happens to your van they will have to provide accommodation for you. If i really needed somewhere to stay i have my mothers or my sisters in emergency so I don't have a fulltime policy i just use my van for the purpose it was intended ....possibly for longer periods than the average person.

Doctor's, dentist etc etc are all registered at that address same with licence ,v5 etc.

Many thanks for all the suggestions.

Did not think about registering at more than one vet, did not even realise you could do that!

Have been thinking of using my daughters address as a temporary redirection of post but had not thought about making it permanent i.e. notifying everyone as hopefully will only take a few months to get sorted and really don't want to go through all the hassle twice!
