Hi , we have crossed the Pyrenees on the French side, has anyone got a good route to cross on the Spanish side please.

You can avoid them altogether on the Spanish side. Not sure if you want to avoid them though .

Erm - thought France was one side and Spain t'other?

Well it was when we crossed via Somport Tunnel - Spanish side roads excellent, French side, well travel in the morning and avoid the trucks 'cos it's a bit narrow and bendy.

i mean to travel west to east but on the Spanish side and through the Pyrenees, not trying to avoid them, if that makes sense , which I rarely do

N230 / N125 is a good crossing. Good roads and picture postcard stuff. Will drop you down onto A64 towards Toulouse. But of course it does depend where you are starting from and where you want to end up.

Thanks 🙏 we have done that route, wondered if there was a parallel route on Spanish side x

You can't easily follow the Pyrenees on the Spanish side unless you use the obvious main roads. I've cycled it but it was hard going and not MH friendly in parts. My suggestion would be follow the road from say Pamplona through Jaca and nip up any valleys which attract you. Anso is worth visiting and there is a remote campsite at the end of the valley. Ordessa is spectacular.

Neither we do we , we are sat in the rain in St Jean de MONTS , which we don’t love, maybe because the sun isn’t shining , and are looking for good ideas, we have a small dog and bikes with us . Just want to go somewhere sunny ☀️ so thought we may do better away from this coast

You need to head into Spain and the Med coast. Thunder storms forecast for the Pyrenees this time next week. ☹️

It'll be a lot warmer too. 😀

Actually it was a magic route coming back from Portugal in mid March. Early spring, sunshine and empty roads, snow capped mountains. Best ever. Something called a virus was following us though!

Seems you're going the other way? Somport still works then.

Somport Tunnel, 02/04/17, on a Sunday morning. No trucks, no problems, but the weather was a bit grim! Incidentally, the MH in front is the one we own now! It belonged to my late friend Richard Symes and we bought it from his widow.

We came back last November via Jaca. I love it there and stopped at the Canfranc station for photos in the snow and then through Somport tunnel. Amazing trip. I checked 4 weather forecasts before heading here and they were all wrong

Thinking about your route, you'll be passing close to Bordeaux (good luck, give em hell), if you take the péage towards Pau you'll be passing the motorway aires at Aire sur l'Adour. If you fancy a night stop, leave the péage there towards the town, turn left over the bridge, go past the stad and take 1st left, there's a pleasant free aires next to the river. Or, if you can make it to the Pyrenees but the weather is a bit naff, there's a good enough ACSI site at Oleron St Marie, which is at the base of the pass, where you could rest for the night. And those gravel trucks on the pass someone mentioned, they'll be empty going up the mountains. Tuck in behind one and you'll get there in no time!

Shame we left Challans yesterday, you could have come and got dry in one of the vans. When you head South, theres a fantastic free stopover at Blaye in the grounds of a chateau , even get free leccy!!

Hi
N-260 on the Spanish side east-west or vice versa very scenic very winding used many times on the Motor cycle but have seen many MOHO on the route would like a revisit some time in the future
cheers

Free aire at Oleron St Marie, on the main road through the town. Entrance a bit tight, need to approach from t'other side of the road.

I've never fancied it, busy street, large camber, narrow entrance with low stone wall, always full and little space inside to manoeuvre. So plenty people do. I did have a go, but someone parked on the opposite side behind me, so I thought, 16 euros at the campsite is cheaper than scraping the side. Chicken, me.

Avoid crossing at the northern end of Spain/France the queues can last forever ! Much better to cross around Pau or Port Bou than the Biarritz area

Which is why we always use the toll autoroutes crossing there - 10 minutes as against well over an hour on the "normal" roads.

We like the Bielsa-Arangnouet tunnel, if you have not done it before worth a try.
How uncanny is that...! I was going along that route last night on street-view... it looks a lovely way to go winter or summer...😃

I may go that way next time I’m over...👍🏼
