We’re a couple of newbies 😊
Hi all

Got a potential newbie question??

Is the water pump meant to switch on intermittently - about once every hour for a couple of seconds

We only really noticed it during our first overnight stop - when camped up ??

We are assuming its normal and just the system keeping the water pressure up ??

Haven't seen any leaks as yet but not really looked thoroughly so no horror stories please !!

Be gentle with us ....

The pump running occasionally does indicate a loss of water pressure which is usually a small leak or a tap or valve not shutting off fully

Could possibly be a small leak somewhere. Try and have a look at the pump and see if there are any leaks around the joints .

Oh bugger - not the answer we were hoping for !!

Thorough inspection indicated at next outing (y)

Thanks guys for the advice

We are up for a spot of DIY and getting to know the inner workings of Gladys better (y)

It is pressure leaving your system, but if it is only every hour or more it won't be serious and you might never find a leak. I had this in an old RV, it used to prime every hour or so. During the day you'd hardly notice it. At night the pump along with a bit of pipe judder was loud enough to wake the dead. We just got in the habit of turning the pump off at night. (y)

We have had similar maybe just once a night. I would turn the pump off at night and run off a little water to depresurise the system and maybe have a check for any obvious leaks.

that's exactly what we ended up doing - pump off at night !!

Will keep an eye on it - again thanks for the input (y) (y)(y)

It may be the pump itself leaking back through a dirty valve.... It only takes a bit of grit on the valve seat.
A couple of clicks an hour doesn't Warrent an hour or two tracing pipes and joints.
As said, good practice to turn off the pump while you're out or at night.... If a proper leak developed you would have a full tank of water to mop up when you got back.

I think once an hour is a sign of something not quite right, but not serious.

We leave ours on at night and it only comes on if the fresh water tank is getting a bit low.

If you can’t find any leak,or signs of same, just turn it off.

As the system cools at night the pressure drops a bit. Ours used to do that. Still does very occasionally.
IMHO nothing to worry about unless you can see water somewhere.

Hi all

My electrician husband is wanting details ...........as is keen to fix

Appreciate this might be a daft question.........

Does anyone know where the pump is located in an AutoSleeper EK 2015 build

We've looked under the seating bench and only leisure battery and drain valve stand out plus possibly a Whale intake thingy - no sign of a pump

The manual says its INSIDE the tank ???

We had exactly the same third trip away. I released some water by opening the main pump valve for a second and it sorted it straight away (famous last words!). If you turn the pump off at night you’ll have to turn it on again if you need the loo in the night ! Good point made about turning it off when out during the day though. Love this site.

I had the same issue and didn't have any leaks.. I traced it to the pump having some pieces of plastic in the pumping element from manufacture I assume. I filled the water tank with a hose on a trip to scotland using a cap with a hoselok connector and expected it to cut off when full but it overflowed and was under quite high mains pressure and I think this forced the plastic from the water tank into the pump...

I switched the pump off, disconnected it and stripped it down (a pretty basic job) and cleaned the plastic swarf from the pumping rubber membrane and gave it a general clean and de-scale and it cured it.. One of the tiny pieces of plastic was sitting in one of the four non return valves in the pump and that was allowing pressure to bleed off just like an actual leak would

We had this problem with our first MH, a 2006 CI Mizar.
Being handy, Ralph went though it with a fine tooth comb and couldn’t find any leaks inside, so like your planning , we turned it off at night . Thinking it was a dodgy pump that needed replacing.
Then on a trip out up at Tan Hill Inn in the snow , he noticed ice in a big drip like icicle coming from the outside shower point, running down the outside of the van.
Problem solved.

Out of habit from when I had a leak many years ago I turn mine off at night and when I'm going to be away for a few hours as if a leak developed the tankful would be pumped out inside the m/h. My pump is inside under a dinette seat.
There's always enough pressure still in the system with the pump off to rinse hands after going for a night-time leak. My Thetford loo has its own separate pump for flushing which works even with the hab 'Pump' switched off.

Submersible pump in the tank is quite possible, if there are wires going to the bottom of your taps that's the sort of pump you will have. I had one in my last Caravan, that leaked back and was fixed for less than a fiver with an inline NRV.

It will be a submersible pump inside the tank with a Wale pressure switch outside the tank. Those wale switches are a nightmare it may just need a bit of adjustment.
Failing that it will probably be a minor leak often small enough to let air in but not water out.

You can also fit an accumulator after the pump (if you don’t already have one) which will help maintain pressure and stop recycling.
Something like this

We had this issue for a couple of years with a Shurflo pump, never did find a leak, solved in the end by replacing the pump, think it was about £60. Have the old pump and mean to take to pieces and fix but haven’t found the time yet.

Not sure if you found the pump or not but I have always found if I need to find it I just run the tap and listen for where the pump noise comes from

Our pump is submersible & the pressure switch that we adjusted as per my last link was under the bench seat near the boiler, if that helps?

I can’t remember the exact details but there was mention on the Autosleeper forum about water pumps running intermittently . Something to do with a pressure switch.
The pump fitted to our Rienza sometimes runs for a couple of seconds after the water heater has been turned off. I was told it was the heater cooling down.

We get it from time to time and i think i traced it back scenarios where we ran the fresh water very low, the pump took in some air and then in turn that air got into the system, my theory is that the air reduces in size under pressure and causes the microswitch to trigger. I say all this as after usually one night of this it just goes away by itself and we've never found any leaks.

I could of course be totally wrong and it's the pump fairy again🧚‍♂️

On our Adria I find the frost protection valve leaks occasionally and causes the pump to operate briefly. I think the seat in the valve gets calcified deposits on it and a quick operation of the valve stops it happening. We have also had the glass filter top alongside the pump occasionally leak slightly.

Spot on len.
And a good place for a leak like this is the shurflo filter housing, the cap that screws on. Initialy repaired mine with a replacement cap then repaired leaking one with Captain Tolleys creeping crack cure. ( applied from both sides, inside and outside)
