Due to pick up our first Motorhome on Thursday, it has a 6kg propane bottle in it. I have a full butane bottle in my garage. Is it possible to use my butane with a different regulator or should I just get another propane? I would try and swap the butane for a propane ince it's empty.

Depending on the age of the motorhome / regulator etc, you should only need to change the pigtail to one that will fit the butane bottle.

You will only need a pigtail……what type of connection is on your butane bottle?

Butane doesn't work as well as propane in cold conditions. When we lived in Scotland and toured in winter we always had propane because of this. Just to be aware of this fact. It also doesn't work as well at Altitude, for example above 1500m.

Welcome to Fun.

Think I’d not want to be breaking into the gas system in any way. Just bite the bullet and get the propane fitted and use your butane for an outside bbq 🍖

Propane boils at -42c and Butane boils at -1c. For example at -5c the Butane will stay a liquid and you get no gas.

I use a household gas here in the summer, a mix of Butane and Propane.

And, pure Propane in the Winter.

All the fittings are the same here so its easy to chop and change, I keep the same regulator and see no difference between the gas mixes.

Something like that should do you….

You may even get a bottle clip on adapter that you can connect your existing pig tail to

Spare pigtails and /or adapters are always useful in case of emergencies, where your chosen bottle is not available.
