Professional grey water dribbler for caravan

We stayed on several Ccc THS’s last year and a lot of the units used this type of strainer.
I think you put grass in to act as filter.

I think it has a 'real' filter as it makes reference to it lasting a long time and you can buy replacements.

It's still not nice and whatever "filter" it has dirty soapy water is still on the pitch. They also say the filter will remove solids, so I guess not much else

The reviews criticise the "bathroom foam" filter as not being fit for purpose.

The one’s being used on the THS’s seem to be homemade thing.

I agree, not something I would ever use, I don't like dropping clean water on parking areas (accidentally) never mind grey.

A lot of wardens might be unhappy when they see it in use.

Are you sure, I thought this was you emptying your grey on the last site you used 😇😄😀

i actually think its not a bad concept ..... i know i am probably on my own in that, but that wont be the first time! so long as its only ever used on grass/earth. i assume that the waste water doesn't flow freely but 'dribbles/percolates' through whatever medium is used as a filter, slowly draining into the earth, no different than a septic tank (albeit at a level below ground surface). if it drains slowly then there should be no residue/excess water left on the site after departure.
it might not be suitable for every location but it might be suitable for some locations as of course would be a bucket with holes and grass as a filter!

ps, is there a tin helmet emoji ....?

Imagine being a tenter who is the next occupant of that grass pitch.

and i have never seen a 'tenter' wash up outside and tip the contents of their washing up bowl onto the ground after finishing washing up or sneaking behind their tent for a quick wee or seen any camper/motorhomer let their dog wee on their own or someone elses pitch !!!

i understand and actually agree with your concerns, just trying to put it into perspective and if the concept only releases 'water' at a rate that it is absorbed by the ground, then i dont think its as big a problem as it first appears.

I saw one advertised recently in a camping magazine. Can’t remember which one though.

It may filter the "solids" but surely the smell will still be there. Also some hardstanding pitches have gravel to hide a boggy area or puddles. This would compound the problem. Hopefully not used by someone on a pitch before us.

Geez you're in a motorhome, put your best thinking cap on and try to find your ignition keys, start your engine and drive round to the grey waste disposal point, you're not a Tugger stop thinking like one, oh and whilst your moving get your hose out and fill the fresh water tank :o

NigelNovice - yes, but what about the previous occupant of a pitch?
Sue

Are you sure you’re not thinking about the black waste 😇😘
 No, we don't have to empty it as much now that hubby has a piddle bottle! :giggle:

I saw this on eBay I hope the person on a pitch before me doesn't have one
I was making those 25 years ago for friends that rallied. A length of 4 inch pipe with a cap on each end. stuff it with grass and have a row of small holes at the base to drain the water. All the fat and debris is caught in the grass. Just empty and refill after each rally

When I was a tugger I spent years going to the same place in France. Very south and very hot. The grey water waste master used to stink!

My mate who owns a MoHo, let his dribble straight out onto the grass. It never smelt, had any bits I could see etc. all that happened is he had lovely lush green grass all around his motorhome by the end of the holiday.

Kids played all over his pitch and it was never noticed in the slightest.

My pitch stank because of the waste carrier. :-(

To be fair, we used to make a similar device out of sticks, grass and a bit of cloth back when I was a Scout in the early 1970's

And here is a similar idea from a 1950's American Scout book

exactly, been doing similar since I was a kid too. Just pointing out, the pipe drain is nothing new, despite what the sellers claim

It only smells when it is collected together and bacteria starts to decompose it. We were taught to drain the dishwater with food waste onto soft ground. The water seeps away leaving the food particles for the insects at the bottom of the food chain. Not ideal on a modern campsite pitch though, hence collecting the fats and debris. The dirty water is gone in minutes, and as you said, the grass/plants appreciate it
