We noticed a change in our Truma over the weekend which has me puzzled.

We were connected to EHU and the control panel (classic dual controls) was set to use 1800W Electric. The temp selector control was set to 60 deg water only.
However, after a few minutes I detected a TCP-like smell that I recognised as being hot plastic. On inspection, I noted hot air coming out of the vents, but with virtually no strength behind it. I checked the controls, and they were definitely set for water only. Yellow LEDS were on on both controls and the Green LED was on for the thermostat control. The thermostat was on '1'.

I switched over to Heating and the fan came on as expected when I increased the thermostat.

Any ideas of how to fault find? As a temporary solution, I switched off heating at the power control.

A couple of photos sometimes helps. (y) How old is the van?

This is completely normal. The smell does go, but it takes an awful long time. The cylinder is getting very hot when heating just the water; different part of the cylinder used, and the air movement you can feel, is just convection. You can shut off the vents to reduce the hot air and to reduce the smell, but leave one or two still open, like garage or cab area.

Thanks for the responses. The van is 6 years old and I've never experienced this before.
Mind you, I've probably never been this long without having the heating on :-) So I suppose it could be just dust build-up.

Give it a blast on full heat but low fan for a few hours when you’re not in it of course!

Ok, thanks.
foe the moment, I’ve just switched off the heating supplyon the distribution unit

I dont have a problem with smell on ours, but when it is 32 outside it is not fun when all you want to do is heat your water and you get warm air blowing through the van.

yes we get it too,
a smell reminiscent of the old 2 bar electric fire being switched on when dust had gathered on the bars. For those of us old enough to remember .
