I’m going to be fitting a roof fan in the next couple of weeks so I had a poke around to see if I could find the pre installed wires on my Elddis Encore.

Took the blind cover off and a presto there they are.

One White and one Red and Blue

My question is which is the pos and which is the neg, if any one can tell me it would save me buying a multimeter to check.

I suppose they are handy to have anyway.

Will get one to be on the safe side.

You'll need to figure out where the fuse and switch are - the wires will presumably be +in + out to a switch and fuse rather than ground

There is a fuse already preinstalled in the fuse box. 10 amp the switch will be on the fan.

I replaced the original MPK roof-light in our van with a Thule Ormniston fan roof-light and the pre installed wiring is none switched and does not need to be as the fan is switched in the roof-light fan itself.

Edit : Beat me to it.

I’m pleased I have the pre wired option, it must be a rave otherwise.

What do you think to Thule fan, I was considering the Maxx fan.

The feed will be the wire colour at the fuse if you can get to it, although very likely that it is the red/blue but you need to see 12v at it to be sure.

The Maxx fan would have been my preferred option, but with the cowling extending rearwards on the Maxx fan it would foul on one of our solar panels, next best option was the Thule which suits our needs in the kitchen area. I also swapped out the bathroom roof-light of a Thule fan, which does a great job of stopping the bathroom misting up when showering.

Not overly impressed with or Dometic Fan Tastic 3350 - it just seems to make loads of noise, drain the battery and do little more than an open window

I installed a Maxxfan last weekend and it went well but there was no pre-installed wiring going to the rooflight so I had to run some new wires. My Hymercar PVC uses every conceivable combination of colours for +ve and -ve so a multimeter is a must and it's also worth having some spare fuses...

I feel the same about the over hyped Endless Breezer which I found to be right load of old tosh. Before I balanced the blades, you had to sit on it to stop it bouncing across the floor. Couldn't let the wife sit on it, she would have had too much fun.

To find which is +12v without a meter is pretty simple: connect one side of a spare bulb or light to a good earth. Connect the other wire from the bulb or light to each of your fan wires in turn. The one that causes it to light up is +12v.

+1 for what John Barrett said.......

Spend the seven quid and buy a multimeter, save all the faffing around and guess work.

Then you can also pass the lockdown hours testing things that don’t need testing just because you can.....👍🏼
