many many years! since I was a kid
the puck IS a MiMo dual antenae. as in there are 2 aerials inside the puck with 2 wires to the router. Ihave used one on a huawei 5577 and it works well. Now use it on a huawei B535 and it increases from 2 to 5 bars, with and without the aerials

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
MIMO is effectively a radio antenna technology as it uses multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver to enable a variety of signal paths to carry the data, choosing separate paths for each antenna to enable multiple signal paths to be used.

- taken from the Net, not my less than extensive knowledge .....

apparently a poynting puck also uses MiMO technology

it stands for Multi In Multi Out. Basically 2 different frequencies to give a far better signal. The higher you can get it, the better the signal it pulls in and transmits

As said th Puck is a MMIO but it's nowhere as good as the larger MIMO.
the Puck has no or very little gain in the 800mhz bandwidth which means it can be useless in rural areas. It's fine in urban areas where the transmissions are in the 1.8 & 2.7 ghz bandwidth but rural often use the 800mhz bandwidth as the signal travels further.

I am away this weekend in a rural area with low EE and 3 signal. If it doesn’t make a difference the I will probably swap for the bigger one. Does anyone know how easy it is to install? For the puck I just drilled a 22mm hole and fixed it on - will the bigger one need a different size hole? Thanks

Same size hole, on mine I removed the sticky pad and fixed it with Sikaflex.

Does the bigger MiMo require a metal ground plate under it? If so, any idea what size?

Can confirm what Lenny HB says, as I fitted the larger one to my coachbuilt a couple of weeks ago.

It will give a strong stable good signal when connected to a head unit with GPS, or separate GPS with an external antenna connection.

Only downside is having to find a way to route the GPS cable from the antenna to the head unit, which possibly will require an extension lead.
