power surge in france

anyone ever heard of a power surge knocking out a fridge circuit boards and element at a cost of £520 repair bill or am i been ripped off
if it is possible how do you stop this happening again
any reply would be helpful
 
Lenny HB wrote something about this, and recommended purchasing this, which i did. forget the fact that i have shown the leads the wrong way around

The AVS30 will protect from over & under voltage & spikes.
You probably weren't ripped off as the PCB was probably silly money from Dometic. Around £250 for the PCB and heating element from £60 up to £110 depending on model.

Seen AC circuit boards knackered by high voltage surges, lightning allegedly struck a nearby grid transformer and the pub next door had to extinguish a fridge in the kitchen ? ⚡
