Just a gripe about poor powder coatings on steal brackets etc
I know powder coating can be done well but it annoys me the number of small items that need replaced or cleaned up and repainted after two or three years
Latest was the hook end brackets on the Fianna bike rack. Everything else on the rack is alloy or stainless but the brackets coating has started to flake
It was not a big deal to remove them and deal with it
It,s just that I needed to do it that I,m moaning about
Yes probably a touch of OCD
Lots of garden stuff is the same

has caused the demise of many tvr,s not a great solution for protection

I use powder coating a lot when restoring classic motorbikes. The problem of rusting arises when a new part is fitted because when the bolts are tightened they tend to drag and 'tear' the powder coating, allowing ingress of water. Likewise if the part has been drilled after being powder coated.

Galvanizing I have always seen as a better solution
Technically a more specialized and expensive but much more durable
pagey I had forgot about tvr's
Fancied one till I did a mot on one when I was still on the tools that was not that old but the frame was on it's way out

i wanted to galvanise a tvr chassis i had but was warned off because apparently they twist

I had all my wheels powder coated a while back. The four alloys have flaked off badly from the centre outwards, confirming the nut/bolt theory, meanwhile the steel spare that sits in a cradle underneath the van is immaculate ! I need to get the alloys refurbished again, but might look at getting them painted instead ?

Built a replacement chassis for a tvr once because the guy didn't like the poorly built a arms, original was garbage....rest of car was fine
Powder coat is pants, if you want it to last galvy it, if you want it to really last build it in stainless 👍

I've not painted alloy but Craftmaster brushing paints (as used on the restoration of 'Flying Scotsman') used for every part of this bike, (a 1952 Matchless 500cc model G9 if anyone wonders).
