3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
In Spain at th mo but thinking of popping into Portugal. Unfortunately because of the poorly fridge which doesn't work on gas, we will need EHU most of the time although odd nights off grid are possible.

We are thinking more of Porto and north rather than th Algarve.

What are the campsites like overthere?. Really want cheap but with electric.

Do they have free motorhome stops like Spain?

Anything similar to camping carpark in France?

Any feedback appreciated to help us plan. (y)

Plenty of free camper stops once you get away from the Algarve but very few with EHU.
A lot of the camp sites away from the Algarve will be closed this time of year.
Have a look on Camper Contact that is usally fairly upto date.

There’s a Portuguese MH stopover portal at https://campingcarportugal.com/areasServico?l=english , which can filter on electricity available. But I think most sites outside the South are likely to be closed or closing imminently.
Certainly most ACSI sites are, although the site at Vila Cha on the coast N of Porto appears to be year round. Also municipal site in Coimbra, site in Vilanova de Milfontes. As a very general observation, sites in N & Central Portugal are not expensive, but some of them are pretty basic - plenty of exceptions to this obviously.
If you do get into Portugal it may be worth trying to get a copy of the Guia Roteiro book - claims to list all sites in Portugal, and gets a discount on some. Only cheap (?under €10) and can easily pay for itself with discount savings.

Hi.
There are still some " Orbitur " Campsites open, get those up on your pooter....Try this one NOT Orbitur,on the way up Parque Foz Do Arelho. Email..Pacfozdoarelho@gmail.com Got everything on site,by the side of a sea inlet. WAS cheap when last there 3/9/17 . Had 3 nights in a Cabin at Orbitur " Valgueira " last week, touring site WAS open, but if you leave the site and head down towards the Beach, there is an Aire in the town centre'ish, about 2 mins walk up onto the beach max.. So,couple of nights on the site, move off to beach till your batteries fail,go back and charge up. Jobs a good 'un. I think the Municiple sites are being sold off,but worth a search on your Tippy tappy just in case there are some still open/about..

Don't be put off the Algarve by the likes of Vilamoura and Albufeira, there is a lot more to the place than the central Algarve coastal area.

This company has Camperstops in 3 places along the Algarve, Tavira, Falesia and Silves.
The Tavira one is near to us Falesia was full last week as was the similar one next door to it, Silves had spaces but we stopped on the one near to the swimming pool. The website indicates how many spaces are available,

Further up the Alentejo coast are 2 nice sites at Zambujeira do Mar and Vila Nova de Milfontes, spectacular coastline and exceptional coastal walks.

Going back several years (probably seven?) we stayed here;

PARQUE CAMPISMO SALGUEIROS

Rua de Sagueirosi

It's just South of the Lavadores Suburb near the mouth of the Douro river.

It's not in Porto, (which is the area to the North of the River), however,
it is on a Bus route to the City and is within a cough and a spit of the coast.

In 2019, when 'cooling down' from walking the Camino de Santiago I walked to
the place for 'Fun' so it's not far (honest)

It's not the smartest of sites but it does have lekky.

No problem with the Algarve. Just been in that area quite a few times before but never explored Portugal north of Lisbon.

There’s a good site (well we thought so ) in Lisbon . Pretty central and bus stops outside site for city .Nazares sites were open in winter 2019 too.

Hi.

We have stayed at Ecoparque Do Outão, just outside Setúbal, on several occasions and can thoroughly recommend it.

It is in a beautiful location but you do need your own transport to be able to visit the town.

Enjoy.

I love Portugal but remember it is the same time as Uk, so very long dark evenings, I enjoy the extra hour in Spain
