I’m a newbie
Hi guys
we have booked the ferry to Santander in mid December for a months stay. Would like to do a bit of Portugal I.e algarve and around there before heading for spain. We’ve never been to Portugal so hoping someone could recommend some nice places to see with 2 dogs in tow. We love beaches. Where is worth staying and what to avoid.
Also, where is worth stoping en route to Portugal from Santander. Thanks
karen.

Might be better to change the title to Tour Guidance wanted as you'll likely get more views.

Love Portugal but not the algarve, for the coast try Nazaré for spectacular waves, just to look at. However we prefer an inland municipal park near Idanha a Nova, Fresh water amazing history, easy driving

For info why not the algarve please Ian. Never been to Portugal

The Algave is lovely but its more touristy, if you want peace and quiet away from everything then its not for you, we love it, lovely beaches and plenty of watering holes.

You’re be alright with 2 dogs as everyone seems to have a dog in Portugal

If you want an idea of what Portugal is like and stops on the way have a look at the links to my trips in my signature.
If you want nice beaches without crowds the west coast is the place to go.

Far too busy for us, really struggled for somewhere to stay mid season without booking in advance, Having travelled from central Portugal where it felt like we were the only ones there. Im sure its lovely if the right place is found but we tend to avoid the busy places, Benidorm, Alicante Murcia etc. I felt it was too much like these places. In the other hand I have friends that really love it there. You have to try everywhere once to form an opinion so don't avoid it.

Just remember wild camping is now illegal in Portugal. Get yourself a book of All the Aires Portugal and Spain from Vicarious books before you leave.

Hi, been to portugal a good few times but never with a motorhome, Lisbon is a nice place but as a country bumpkin I didn't stop there long and the second time we docked there a couple friends and I jumped on the train down to Almada down on the costa da caparica, that was nice and worth a visit if your that way. As for the Algarve, ive golfed down there and for lads golfing and going to the old strip for a few loud beers its great fun, but the tv series Benidorm does spring to mind.

It isn’t dog friendly at all, go around the corner and explore the Alentejo, if it is an unsupervised beach you can take your dog. We loved it
