Getting there!
Hi all, bit of a noob here, just waiting to get my MH back in a few weeks as it's gone in for some 'repairs'!
A quick question - has anyone tried running a 19vdc portable tv from the 12vdc supply in their MH?
I would try it but my tv has a rather strange lead & I don't want to have to cut the mains adaptor up to try it!

cheers
Chris

19V is the most common voltage for laptop power supplies. 12V laptop chargers are widely available, and most come with many different interchangeable plugs. There's many different types of 'strange' plugs and sockets, do you have a picture of it?

I'd try it. It may work perfectly on 12v, although if it does it will take a bit more current.

Reminds me of a power dip we had a few years ago. We were watching TV at night when the lights suddenly went to half brightness, so maybe 110v? The TV never changed, carried on full brightness as if it was on 230v.

The light bulbs weren't LED by the way 👍💡

It's basically a centre pin plug but the inner pin is quite large. I have seen some on Fleabay but I didn't want to have to buy one, make up a lead & then find it doesn't work!
here is a picture of it.

The dc to dc converter that I linked comes with a set of different ends, LG TV included

You don't have to get a cable made up!

That is quite normal. Rather than have a 230V and 110V model for different markets and complicate their manufacturing and supply chains, manufacturers often fit a switched mode power supply rated something like 100-250V that will also work at anything in between.

Sorry - I've just realised that there is a link to the adaptor - does that come with an end that fits your LG tv? I already have a similar adaptor but it doesn't have a plug that fits my tv :(

If you're not in any hurry I've got a spare brand new one at work that I can confirm that it comes with the LG end - I'm back in at the weekend

That looks like a Sony Vaio plug. It's fairly popular and will very likely be included in a stack of alternative adaptors that come with a 19V car laptop charger. 6.5mm outer, 4.5mm inner hole, with centre pin.

Thanks! yes it's the same as a Sony plug. I've just looked at another tv I have which is a Sony & it's the same - I'll try & get a lead to test it. (y)

Thank you all for your help.
I found a plug on a Sony adaptor and chopped it off then made a lead up with a cigar lighter plug and it seems to work fine plugged into the car socket - I haven't got my motorhome back yet to test it fully but it's looking good

Just in case it helps anyone in the future - my LG tv works fine on 12v without any adapter to boost it - even though it says 19v on the back  :giggle:
