When we were there a couple of weeks ago, there were travellers on the car park just down from the aire. They weren't on the aire itself, and they didn't look as though they were any trouble. There were people staying on the aire, but for a few Euros more, we decided to stay on the campsite, with a nice big grass pitch next to the river. Can't remember exactly how much it was, but 12 Euros comes to mind.
The travellers would not have put us off using the aire.
We have been there in the past thinking "travellers". turned out they were to do with some local entertainment, like a Fair, that was going around the local villages and used Pont de la Arche as a base..
Don't know if I'm correct but I always feel that the travellers in France always seem to be fairly decent people. Used the aire in Vichy and there were a few traveller camps close to the aire. We walked past them several times and they always seemed pleasant. Spoke to the kids playing outside the camp, again seemed well looked after and polite.
We were there 3 weeks ago, the area where the travellers pitched up was spotless, they were also very quiet & kept themselves to themselves.Wouldnt worry about staying there of that's your intention.
