Does anyone have any ideas to rejuvenate the plastic front end of a Hymer? Can you get a polish that will gloss it up as mine has gone matt over the years. Mines a 2003 524.

Thanks N8ess

Thanks Jim

I've pm'd them

There’s plenty of different polishes you could try, you need something that can rejuvenate then polish and wax on top.

Meguires do a range of good stuff, so do Star Brite, Star Brite cleaner wax first, then the ptfe polish on top.

You need to use a GRP restorer then a polish then wax it.
Best to use a dual action polish g machine but be careful Gel coat on Motorhomes is very thin.

jezport does a good restorer send him a PM he does a deal for Funsters.

I use Farecla G10 Finishing Cutting Coumpound which is specifically for GRP which removes the top surface. I use an orbital electric mop to apply it (make sure the mop is dipped in water first). I then finish off with a wax polish by hand.

Mine's the same, 2003 B544, I think the finish (gelcoat I presume) has erroded over the years. I've tried different things but none of the above suggestions, and none have really improved the finish and if you look very close up carefully, you can see pitting.
I think a respray might be the only option now ?
But my solution is like Jim , just don't look too carefully 😀

I use either International Paints 3 x stage marine products, or Meguiars 3 x stage RV products.

Unfortunately, the GRP front of the Flair requires the same periodic care and attention. :(

Lots of Germans had their older Hymer GRP caps spray painted, to avoid the periodic de oxidising.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I used 1500 wet and dry followed up by farecla profile cut compound on a gmop. Finished off with ceramic coat. Works great on a 2004 Niesmann bischoff.

I now do a 3 part kit for restoration purposes.
