Just installed a Gardena Aquabloom for the window boxes at the front of the house. If it works as planned then it will be a great device for those that A) like thirsty garden plants and B) also enjoy going away ;)

Only installed it today so will be running it over the next 2wks before we‘re next away. It’s just on our 8 window boxes and was pretty easy to install. What we liked so far:

Easy install
Solar powered = no electrical cables, plugs needed
Simple controller

So in theory happy Geraniums :giggle:

Now lets see if it works

I didnt know there was a solar option with built in pump, ive used one connected to an outside tap before
I didnt like having to leeve the tap open and then relying on the unit to open and close the valve.
Ill have to look at one of those

I've used irrigatia systems for several years now for watering the patio pots when away. Unfortunately even here in Scotland the summers are getting drier and the water butt can't last too long. No convenient tap to top with either. It does allow me to get away for a couple of weeks though!!!!!

This is also available from Claber who in my opinion are a better brand . I’ve had bad experiences with Gardena in the past . This new product of theirs does look good so keep us updated 👍🏻

I'm busy constructing my own system with 4 210litre water butts, and a filter & pump set up that can be set on a timer, then eventually tied into a raspberry pi moisture sensor for closed loop control

Yes the mains supply was a concern to us and hence we thought this at least overcome that.

Have to say that the Aquabloom is performing well. It takes 10 days for it to empty the entire 60ltr drum so whilst that’s not a huge amount of water per window box (especially in the hot spells) it is enough when we’re away for weekends and an odd week here and there. So far very happy with it👍🏻

We have a gardener! Must admit your option is cheaper but we have trained ours finally to accept that all we want it for our garden to be tidy and not upset the neighbours, we have no interest in gardening and don’t want to waste money on plants that we won’t see because we’re never here. It has taken about 3 years. Our previous gardener understood completely. We love our house but would prefer a smaller garden now that the children are grown up but the MH parking is handy.

If you were near us , i would offer to do it for you.
