Looking to buy
Hi there. Newbie here! Buying our first motorhome and I think we’ve settled on the Pilote 696D Evidence. What is proving really hard to establish is its unladen weight or MIRO so I can calculate the payload. All Pilote seem to publish is the data for previous variants. If anyone has a 696D Evidence I’d be really grateful for any advice on what the actual payload is. Thank-you.

Hi and welcome.

It's unlikely that any figure you get will be reliable.
The difference between the initial factory calculations and the current configuration of the van is very likely to be quite different.
The only way is to weight it yourself or get the dealer to weigh it and produce a weigh bridge certificate.
Then,
When you have the van load up to travelling capacity including the passengers, dog😄 and all and go to a local weight bridge and check your fully laden weight is within your max allowed.

Good luck.

You need to know the MAM, load with everything you need for a trip (including people and pets), then visit a weighbridge to check you comply. Doing it the way you suggest is fraught with difficulties: you've discovered the first (finding ULW), then you need to know the weight of anything added like awning, sat dish, etc, then you need to know the weight of everything you load (people included). Much simpler to load then see what's left of the MAM (hopefully) or what you need to leave behind.

Edit: beaten to it 😊

Thanks for the super fast responses. It is a new (2022) model that we are looking at. The dealers are saying (around) 450 - 500 kg but there seem to be no published figures for the Evidence spec. 450kg feels a bit low to me (even if I upplate to 3650) as we are two adults, one dog and (2) occasional teenagers but it’s hard to find a suitable layout any lighter.

I think in the resources centre of the forum there is a payload calculator which may help you decide if it's enough.
Also, ensure you have a C1 licence for over 3500 if you are not S old as some of us😉
The other point us some converters include the driver, an amount of water and fuel in the base weight.
Don't know if that is the case with this model.

The only way is to load and weigh as stated above.

We had our new van registered at 3650kg and fully loaded with two big people, 2 heavy kayaks, 2 electric bikes plus all the gear, full fuel and water and gas and fridge, freezer and cupboards full we were within limits on both axles and had 90kg to "spare". We have now changed to lighter kayaks so that will save some weight :) I'm not sure what the quoted vehicle weight was when we bought it but as fully loaded we are within limits that's fine.

Thanks Puddleduck. Is yours the 696D Evidence - if so that’s really encouraging. What a great forum I’ve joined!

595kg????

The higher spec models will have a lower payload due to the extras.

Before we parted with any money on our chosen Moho I asked the dealer to get it weighed for us as we were only changing because ours couldn’t be uprated above 3850kg.
He said that was a brilliant idea and after 18yrs in the trade he had never been asked to do that. He also said that he had no idea what the the other hundred or so vehicles he had in stock weighed either.
Sat dishes, solar panels etc, etc all add weight above the original specifications so take away payload. My tip, get it weighed beforehand 👍

Be very careful with Pilote as the MIRO doesn't even include the driver!

.......and everything is extra and deductable from the payload - the dealers just don't tell you that as TBH I don't even think they know their own product.

Here are a few examples that need to be removed from your available payload when examining your sepc:

1. Oven - 13kg.
2. Spare wheel - 40kg.
3. Electric island bed - 20kg.
4. Extractor fan - 1kg.
5. Radio - 1kg.
6. Awning - 33kg.
7. TV aerial - 2kg.
8. Towbar - 47kg.
9. Rear steadies - 9kg.
10. Solar panels - 12kg.
11. Energy Pack - 34kg.
12. Comfort Pack - 15kg.
13. Relaxation Pack - 41kg.
14. Alde Pack - 35kg.
15. Outside shower - 1kg.
16. Outer side skirt drawer - 15kg.

They even remove 1kg if you get the electric version of the Truma boiler (which you do get in the UK).

Payload only includes 'travel water' which is 10kg (or 20kg, I can't recall) and a 90% full 75-litre tank.

There's also the usual EU regulation of +/-5% variation in the materials being used to consider too.

Just be careful !!

All the best,

Andrew
