Pet passport obtained in France

Yes I think it was a burst abscess , the Swiss vet thought it was a snake bite. We don't think it was a snake bite as he was ill the day after the jab ( in the top of his rear leg), he didn't want to walk anywhere after that. View attachment 778501

Oh please ! anyone who still won’t believe me 🤪🤪🤪🤪👍

Just out of interest, did the vet register the microchip numbers and do you have the registration document. I have an ex Irish farm rescued border collie that has an old original Irish passport and would like to find out if its still valid. Long shot I know.

yes

So we’re off to France next week sometime 🙂
can I ask if dogs have to have a collar ? Identity tag? Ours wear harnesses (our Boston doesn’t have a neck🤫)
what worming tablets for return and where best to get them?

A harness is a type of collar surely...? We just let the vet sort the worming tablets out... Slightly more money perhaps, but we've enough things to sort!

Hope you’re right our dogs hate collars (our Boston would have to wear hers around her belly😄😄😄)

Dog must have a I’d tag on whatever it wears.

Vet worming on return is min of 24 hrs before return and max 5 days. We use different vets depending on our route back to the shuttle

The wormer tablet must be adminstered by a vet.

The worming tablet must also contain the correct ingredient as detailed in the reference provided by HKF above. It is possible that that some do not or are not considered to be "equivalent". Someone in a kiosk outside the ferry port or tunnel probably does not have authority to decide!

Understand that but a few have saved by supplying the tablet 👍

From the .gov information,treatment must:
  • be approved for use in the country it’s being given in
  • contain praziquantel or an equivalent proven to be effective against the Echinococcus multilocularis tapeworm
We use Drontal plus.

'Drontal Plus are worming tablets containing 50mg praziquantel, 144mg pyrantel embonate and 150mg febantel for the control of tapeworms and roundworms'

Ah. ok. We travel back regularly and the cost is very small for our 6.5kg Shih Tzu. The last one was in June this year and was;

  • Consultation €34.08 + TVA
  • Drontal Chien HP le CP €4.25 + TVA
I understand large dogs will be more and multiple dogs will be more again but I hope this helps you :)

That is the tablet that our vet in France uses too. It looks like a dog biscuit and it is supposed to have a meat taste. She usually gives our dog an ordinary small biscuit first to allay suspicion and then the Drontal.

My dog will never be convinced by that game and has to have it down her throat!!

That is much the same as our 29kg lump so I guess the only difference is the size of tablet.

I think eurotunnel will only accept praziquantel
I seem to remember reading that 4 or 5 years ago when we got something else which I’m sure was ok but we went and got a signature we’d had praziquantel to make sure!!

Thanks for the replies ,what worming tablets do I have to take 🤪🤪🤪

Most vets we’ve used ( bar that one I mentioned in previous post who gave a drug fir tics and worms - in east Germany ) will provide drontal
Most vets are well versed with returning dogs to Uk we find- only found one who hadn’t seen an AHC brfore

I took Drontal as I get them as part of the vet healthcare plan and so had ready.
Should of read the post 😄what tablet do `I’ have to take 😄😄😄 just me being silly🙏

I do urge all our visitors with dogs fully to understand the paperwork themselves, particularly since the AHC was introduced, so that they can check what the vet is doing. They usually fill in the paperwork resting on the treatment table and are always a bit distracted. If they get anything wrong and you don't notice it could be disastrous being refused access to the ferry or tunnel.

We have a question regarding our Spanish PP that we can't get an answer for. Essentially our dog has a Spanish PP. In southern Spain( and possibly the whole of Spain but we don't know) the requirement is that the rabies jab is given every year. It is the same vaccine that is given in the UK and elsewhere in the EU and which is normally valid for 3 years. Since we came back from Spain last May the one year has expired but the three years has not. Would the PP still be valid for travel into France or not and is there anywhere were we can get a definitive statement. We asked Eurotunnel but they told us the ask the UK government for some strange reason !

As an addendum to this....do we need a AHC / PP to travel to Eire ? As a jab in Erie would 'validate' it beyond question?

As You have an eu pet passport you can get a rabies booster in any EU vets in any EU country.

You need to ask in advance for a 3 year vaccination. You may need to get it outside Spain if no luck locally.
It must be done before the current rabies vaccine date runs out.

You can use your Spanish pet passport to travel to Ireland

Ps if the rabies is done by a uk vet the passport is void,

Apologise just re read your post ..

If the expiry date in the passport has passed then it is no longer valid for travel to the EU unless you are already in the EU you will need to get a AHC to get the dog back across the water and get a new booster by an eu vet.

Is the three year jab registered on the PP?
