After reading items regarding pet passport address, it crossed my mind that rescue dogs brought into the UK must have a passport with an address that has no bearing on the final owner. I have no idea if this is the case but I would have thought so. If this is the case then surely any address would do.

I have read about people using the vet address on the pet passport. Perhaps this is a way to get an EU pet passport.

I would say that you are right - the address on the Pet Passport is of no interest to Border Control whatsoever. There is no EU-wide requirement for a permanent residential address in order to obtain a Pet Passport, however individual countries can introduce their own particular ‘requirements’ concerning their issue (eg France and its current Icad registration obsession). In practice, what this boils down to is: go along with whatever the issuing vet is happy to accept for an address (whether UK, local campsite, whatever). If you can’t comply with their requirement then look for another vet (in another EU country if necessary). Once you actually have the Pet Passport in your hands the address on it becomes irrelevant.

You're right, there is only the owner's address (and obviously space for new owner details if dog changes hands), a dog doesn't "reside" anywhere, or have any address of it's own. Our dog is a Portugese rescue. When we went to take her back to the UK the portugese vet hadn't signed her passport, no probs, we just popped into a French vet who copied all the details into a French passport so we could take her into UK, job done. This was pre- Brexit but our local vets here definitely will issue EU pet passports.

This is the case, our dog is an Irish rescue and the passport is an EU-Ireland one with the Irish vet name/address at issue.

We are hoping to get Pippa’s EU passport sorted using our friends address in France, she has two houses so, hopefully, either one will do!

We have just got our rescue Pointer from Spain, complete with all documentaion.

If we go to EU do we need to do anything else with the passport or can it be used as it is ? as it's written in Spanish will that be a problem either going into EU or coming back into UK ?

or do we need a new UK passport ?

Congratulations on your new member of the family.

You will need to fill in your name as owner on the pet passport and sign it. Written in Spanish is not a problem; it is, after all, a Spanish pet passport. There is actually very little to be written in it anyway, mainly the dog’s description and location of microchip. The really important bits are all numbers. You do not need a new UK(GB) pet passport as they are no longer issued or valid.

We had EU passport for Paddy and Casper. We are/were hoping to obtain one for new pup Jacques sometime in April. I subscribe to The Connection French newspaper, the attached is in this months. The French Government seem determined to make it difficult.

A strangely-worded article but it highlights that it’s easier to get an EU Pet Passport in a country other than France.

Your post (Well, as we are the ones who'll be vastly inoculated within a few months, It's those pesky europeans that should be banned from coming here). So please tell me why you want to visit the EU?
