We do a bit of walking everywhere we go but sometimes it is easier than others. Some UK areas can be ok but often in less popular places, the paths are not well signposted or well used.

On the other hand, other areas, such as the Lake District, Peak District etc.. are fantastic for walking. The paths are all well trodden, well signposted and the towns and villages are all geared up for walkers. Muddy boots and dogs are usually allowed in most pubs in these kind of areas.

So the question is, Are there similar perfect walking areas in France that we should definitely be visiting on our next trip?

You can ask in any Mairie for the Randonnee. This is a map of local walks. Usually free of charge and if you can't find a Mairie that is open, try the local Bureau de Tourisme.
In France you can walk anywhere unless signposted Prive and Chasse ( hunting)

To find places to walk in France then Google 'Sentier Littoral' - and walk to your hearts content!

As long as you like the sea, this is a coastal path;).. sentier pédestre is a normal footpath...Most villages, towns will have a board somewhere often by the church, mairie or lake with their local walks on...from perhaps 5kms to 15 kms..Often shared with the local VTT ( mountain bike) enthusiasts...They are normally well marked, but occasionally cross over another village's path using the same coloured stripe......Hunters are now less camouflaged than they were, they have to wear a High Vis vest...

Lots of good walking areas , ski resorts in the summer are pretty good. We have noticed lots more good route marking for walkers in the past few years. As others have said Tourist Offices often very helpful.
