Hardly use them now but have done once this time and over a bridge when i took a wrong turn and all times when we got to the booth it came up class 2. My question is when you roll up to the peage does one just pay or change the class yourself?

Cheers.

Either.
We are 9m long, 3.3m high, 5200kgs and 3 axles.
So we should be cat 4.
We’ve been charged cat 2/3&4 by different tolls.
We’ve even questioned the category and had it reduced.
So when you pull up at the peage and see what category it is, you can always press the help button and speak with them.

We're 8.6 and 3 axels. On the only three ocassions we've used it it comes up class 2.

I think different toll companies take a different approach. I travelled through France to Spain and was charged a mixture.
You can always tell them that you’re a camping car as the automatic barrier booths work on height sensors and May think you’re a truck. They normally reduce it then.

I just wait for the invoice then contact them and they adjust it accordingly

Class 2 is a motorhome normally under 3m high and only 2 axles , they don’t appear to weigh so if you are not obviously over 3.5t then you remain class 2.
At a guess some of their height sensors are under calculating your height hence class 2 charge.

We're a tad under 3m. It comes up class 2 an we pay by Revolut and go. Don't question it.

Always been charged as class 2 but nothing to stop you pressing the call button and saying "Nous sommes camping-car s'il vous plait" if anything else comes up.

I always use the automatic toll (pay by card) and it has always come up as class 2 although officially it should be class 3 due to weight (7.5 metre 4250KG). I don't think they weigh you though - presumably done on height/length.

We are a tag axle and mostly charged class 4, on the odd occasion it comes up class 2 we just press the button and say 'nous sommes un camping-car s'il vous plait' and every time it's been lowered to class 4. 😉

I had a Tag which my mate the transport manager sorted out for our Swift Bolero 4250kg moho. The tolls on the main drag were not a problem, it was the ones at the end of the slip road. The tag said we were class 3 but the toll system said class 2. Payment would not be taken from the tag so a longish conversation in pigeon Fronglais. They would the class was wrong. We did not realise it was wrong. By the time the queue beh8nd had built up they would let us go. I chucked the tag in the glove box and then got charged class 2 and 3 in no particular sequence.

Class 4 is more expensive than Class 2! Just pay if it comes up Class 2 and query if it comes up Class 4!

We get charged Class 4 every time as we are over 3m, 4.5 tonne and 3 axles and when I queried it the first time was told because we are over 3m so haven't bothered since although we don't use tolls much.

Whoops got my 2 and 4 the wrong way round, sorry 😞

If it comes up class 2 there's no point querying it as they won't think you're a car (class 1) so the price can only go up!

We have a ATMB/Liber-t tag and have driven toll roads the length and breadth of France (using mainly toll roads to save time as I'm still working) and always comes up class 2. We have a 24 foot long, over 11 foot high Cheyenne. Don't know if that makes us lucky in that no Peage has registered us as class 3 or the tag is a very good one.

We are normally charged as Class 2 although we are over 3.5 tonnes. What I don't know is whether this may be affected in future if we need to press to speak to an operator and they check the booth CCTV & spot Angles Mort stickers.

Just tell them you like the look of them 😁

I use the same tag in a car and on the motorhome, car is class I and the van is always class II. I understand it is done on height. It isn't the weight as weighing dynamic vehicles is very difficult and with a tag you don't stop.

I have found this on the interweb

The emovis website states that - for a French Liber-t tag

"In addition your vehicle or motorcycle MUST BE under 3m in height and less than 3.5t in weight.”

meaning that (a 4-wheel) vehicle needs to be appropriate for a Class 1 or Class 2 autoroute tariff.

If a motorhome has a basic height sub-3m, but has a satellite dish on its roof that increases the height above 3m, it’s probable that this will trigger a height sensor at an autoroute toll-booth, resulting in a Class 3 tariff being applied. Using the toll-booth’s ‘help button’ should result in the Class 3 tariff being legitimately reduceed to the Class 2 charge, but I’m not sure what happens where the Liber-t system is concerned as this is based on the vehicle carrying the Liber-t tag qualifying for the Class 1 or Class 2 tariffs.

In the emovis FAQ section

https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/faq/#tag-use-faq-section

there is the following advice

What if I have a roofbox or bike on the roof and need a toll adjusting?

France - Liber-t tag

If you are a Class 1 vehicle and have a roof load such as a roof box or bicycle that takes your overall height over 2m, you will still be charged as a Class 1 vehicle. There is equipment (laser and 3D imaging) in the Liber-t lanes that can distinguish between 'Class 1 + roofload' and Class 2 vehicles. You should be charged at Class 1 rate.

Occasionally however, this auto detection equipment may incorrectly identify you as Class 2. We advise you to check your bill when you receive it or view your future toll balance in your 'Account Summary' area and if you have been incorrectly charged at Class 2 rate, please open a toll adjustment request. Just go to your 'Account Summary' area, scroll down and next to 'My Tags' click 'View Tolls', click on the toll you wish to be adjusted, click 'Raise a Toll Adjustment Request' and complete the toll adjustment request form. We will ensure that you are reimbursed the difference the following month. Toll adjustments must be requested within 3 months of the transaction date.

and also

Large Motorhomes / Commercial Vehicles.

France - Liber-t tag

The Liber-t tag is only for class 1, 2 & 5 vehicles. Emovis Tag UK does not offer the TIS-PL tag for class 3 and 4 vehicles, but our sister company Eurotoll do offer the TIS-PL tag for Class 3 and 4 vehicles.

How do you work that out.
Class 2 is lower than class 4
