Up until a week ago I have had faultless performance from my Oyster vision 3 satellite with autoskew, even picking up Astra 2 in Spain. However I drove off without lowering my dish first and although the dish lowered automatically it has not been the same since. Previously it would lock onto the satellite no problem. Now it won't lock on until I switch the TV on. If we switch the TV on without the dish being up, the dish will raise itself without any input from me. I have had several error messages including "faulty LNB" and "power error". I have done the system reset as outlined in the operating instructions several times but it is still very hit and miss if the system works. Any ideas?

My first check would be to see if the dish is fully returning. It is locked to the raising shaft by two Starlok washers and could have moved. If a shift is preventing full travel either up or down it may not be operating one of the full up or full down microswitches.

Thanks. I'll have a closer look in the morning. There didn't appear to be any problem with dish rising or retracting properly but thanks for the idea.

Good morning,

I'm not going to lie that doesn't sound like a quick fix.
I would hazard a guess that there is an electronic issue within the Brain unit which is causing the problem. LNB error on a vision III is now accompanied by a specific variant of the failure in brackets after the error so if you have that information I can diagnose better however if your system is running older software then you won't see it.
If it is the electronic problem I'm assuming it is then I believe that a capacitor or a resistor/transistor has failed which would explain both errors as the LNB failure is due to power supply to the LNB/signal back from it and power error is pretty self explanatory.
Ideally I'm afraid I would probably need to see it and open the brain unit to identify the fault however if I'm right we may be able to fix it on site and if not we can at least supply a loan unit (at cost unfortunately however it is refundable) while we send it back to our head office for further inspection and repair.

Anthony. Thanks for the reply. I did suspect the problem is in the electronics. I have looked in the settings and there is an error section which says, E* ----5--------. Unfortunately the instructions do not say what this means, hopefully you can.
We are currently in France and due back home next week. If there is any further information I can give you please let me know.

No the error messages section was never implemented properly I'm afraid so the error messages are non specific and sometimes mean absolutely nothing. The error you have (LNB error) on our latest systems will come with clarification directly after so "LNB Error (AC)" for example is a communication error telling you that the system is sending voltage but not receiving a signal back. If it is power related then my advice until you get home would be to keep the brain unit well ventilated. If you can keep it cool then it should minimise the potential of this problem arising until such a time where we can have a look properly.

Hi. I have a problem with my oyster sat system. Up to today it has worked fine and pulled in the channels and sat no problem. Turned on today. Got an error code. Lnb error (ff) then LNB -ic(2)
Tried to look that up but no joy so far...
Can anyone point me in the right direction...?
Thanks.

Good afternoon Mintosbs

LNB error IC(2) normally means that there is no communication between the Oyster electronic indoor unit and the LNB which would suggest that there is a break or a short in the coax cable.
LNB error (FF) however is a bit more sinister and means that there is a problem with the tuner on the indoor unit.

Ideally we would need inspect the unit in situ to make a full diagnosis. I would hope that the main issue is a short in the cable somewhere which has caused the (FF) error but obviously I cannot be sure.

If you'd like to speak to us directly or make an appointment to bring the system in then please give me a call on 07979745688 between 8:30 and 17:00. You can also contact us on the office number which is 01858575928 however we are having issues with it currently and there is a small amount of interference which can be frustrating.

Hi. After seeing your reply I had a "fiddle" with the able connections. Made sure they were tight and secure... then ran the system up.
No more error codes. And I managed to locate and tune in astral 2. So far so good...
Where about are you. ?
If we have more problems it will be good to know...
MANY THANKS for pointing me in the right direction. I have cable at home so.not a lot of experience with satilite gear. But the connection did seem.....loose... we only got the bus recently so I am still finding g out how things works a.d checking things over....

Sorry for the late reply, had yours and another to do. Did theirs and then got distracted.
We are just outside of a small village called Welford on the Leicestershire\Northamptonshire border.

You're very welcome for the advice. If the connector is loose be careful with it as there is a possibility it'll fall apart if damaged. We use crimp on connectors so no way it'll go back together if it does and the centre core on these systems is braided instead of a solid core so you can't really use a normal screw on connector unless you fancy soldering the centre core and even that's a bit iffy. We have a special crimp tool for the F Connectors so depending on how far away you are from us it might be worth making a trip to see us at some point and I can put that right.

Oyster satellite with error: lnb fail (ed). Anyone know what this issue is? Have already check cable,it sends signal. Changed to new lnb, same error. New lnb is 0.3db
